I was actually looking into Redemption, since I know that JLB did some work with them.  Any recommendations for a starting album?

I've been on the forums for a few months but I just got around to making an account.

I forgot Coheed and Cambria and LTE . How could I? I don't even.

The I&W-FII eras of DT are also a fav. Once upon a time they were #2 to the original lineup of QR, but it has slid down the list over the years.

I wholly approve of your limited yet  :metal music library.
I've heard more bands of course, but those are the only bands I'd consider my favorites because I checked out 3+ albums from each.

Big Redemption fan here as well. Go with their latest - Snowfall on Judgment Day.

You can read a little bit about the record and the band here:

Last night I checked out the debut album....it wasn't the most impressive thing for me, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, since it was the first.  By the way, are they Christian, or just Christian-themed (if that makes sense)?

Metallica
Dream Theater
Nightwish
U2

Opeth

Everything after that (which is A LOT) is pretty much equal.

First album had a different singer. The three with Ray Alder (Fates Warning) as lead vocalist are - The Fullness of Time, The Origins of Ruin, and Snowfall on Judgment Day.

To my knowledge, no, they are not Christian or Christian-themed, no.

The first album with the different singer had a fair bit of Christian themed music on it, but the rest isn't at all. I don't really like the first album, but it was more a project while the other three are an actual band.

I'd also say go with Snowfall On Judgement Day, it's a good start - it's also the one that's got James Labrie on one song.

All three of the ones with Ray Alder on vocals are solid though. Origins Of Ruin is probably my favourite of them.

I know that itunes (I think) incorrectly placed them under a "Christian" heading, which may have caused the confusion.
I would definately get hooked with Snowfall, and you can go backwards from there.

Dio

Just had a Saxon DVD in (Dortmund 1982). I love Saxon. Still going strong!
Great stuff listed here. Finally, another Alice Cooper mention!
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

There's lots of bans I really like but the ones I call favourites tend to be the ones who've passed the time test. I've recently headed back to the classic bands from my youth. I come from more of an 80s "hair metal" (God I hate that term) pllace than most here it seems. Not much of a prog fan. Probably missed a load too.
DT are number one. No-one is close. They are the only band I will buy there stuff without hearing it first these days.
KISS
Priest
Rush
fish era Marillion
Satriani
Vai
Queensryche (but only pre Promised Land. Still consider them a favourite despite them spending 20 years trying to piss me off)
Pink Cream 69
Edguy
Rainbow
Harem Scarem
Y&T
Danger Danger
Whitesnake
Poison
Warrant
Winger
Vinnie Moore
Manowar
Gary Moore
Yngwie but he hasn't done anything worthwhile since Facing The Animal except for the Concerto Suite.

King Postwhore

in no order

Rush
Porcupine Tree
Pineapple Thief
Kiss
Kings X
Iron Maiden
Dada
Transatlantic
Spocks Bread
Toto

I'll add more later.  DT is top 3 for me.
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

Salmacis

These are not in any real order:

Genesis
Yes
Rush
Marillion
Van Der Graaf Generator/Peter Hammill
The Flower Kings
Zappa
The Beatles
Ayreon/Star One/Guilt Machine
Änglagård
Wobbler
PFM/Banco/Le Orme

Beardfish
IQ
Opeth
Symphony X
Porcupine Tree
Arena
Camel
Kaipa
Iron Maiden
Metallica
Megadeth
Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Uriah Heep
Deep Purple

... I could go on forever, so I'll stop now.  :D
