I'm sorry, but I've never heard of somebody asking an internet forum to name their child. What does your wife think about this?

Maybe he runs the household.  He's a man's man.  What he says, goes.  He wants a DT baby name, he gets one.  Period.

I have no idea what it's like to be that kinda guy, but I've heard things!

Congratulations! It is the best feeling in the world. I was in the same boat myself, wanting to honour DT by including something in the boys' names but didn't want the obvios Mike, John James etc. but couldn't think of anything.
Ended up calling my youngest Alex after Alex Lifeson!

My dog is called The Ministry of Lost Souls.

...I was thinking of making that into a joke about how long sausage dogs are or something, but on reflection I don't want to ruin the sentence.

Dude, I can appreciate that you're a huge DT fan, I just don't think that it should influence what your child has to live with for the rest of their life. But then again, it's not really my buisness. :P

Naming your child after something like that is actually very common. But usually it's because the name stands out, not that you go looking for a name in a specific field.

^It's not the fact that he wants to name her after something Dream Theater-related. It's more of the fact that he's putting his future daughter's name in the hands of this internet forum. I love my name, but if I found out that my father put an ad in the paper asking for suggestions for what to name me, I'd be a little thrown off.

ScioPath

So make sure she doesn't find out...

You want something unique?  Try LaBrie.  It sounds feminine, its a direct tie to DT,and its something unique that can make her feel special.

well that would qualify for a boy's name.. the name i have on my list is James Brie... but i'll consider that... thanks...

Now wait a minute man
That's not how it is
You must be confused

I meant using his last name for a first name.  Brittany and Briana often get shortened to "Brie" by friends and family, so just calling her LaBrie Lastname could work.

Name her Kevin Moore.

Come on guys, you're slacking if it's ME that has to make this post.  And 2 pages in, for that matter!

Eh, for me, it *is* the fact that he wants to name her after something DT related :lol

This reminds me, I actually plan on having 5 kids someday. They will be named John, John, Mike, James and Jordan. And if any are born girls, I'll just name them Kevin Moore until I get some boys.

Well, when she gets to be a teenager, she'll likely expect you both to address her as "Your Majesty", so that kinda works.

And if you end up giving her a brother, you can call him Sir Rounded.

That's all it took?

Honestly, the fact that so many newer members are getting pissed and "leaving" because one or two dissenting opinions makes me feel better about MP's stance toward the internet. Makes me realize he's not acting that strangely.

Dude... the guys asking for suggestions, not letting us pick the name. Way different and not strange at all. People get their kids' names from all sorts of random places.

Sixtease

icon_bleed, if you still lurk around, I had another idea. How about giving her two names with DT initials? Like Denise Theresa or any other names that begin that way.

Mebert78

How about just the name "Dream" for a girl?  Dream Cunningham.  Dream Davis.  It goes well with some last names.

You could go with Vindaloo, as in Bombay Vindaloo. It's got a tribal feel to it.

Call her Porntoy. Not only is it a great refference to DT, but it will give her an obvious career choice.
