Sorry to start another thread to what im sure has been brought up countless times before, but I must say that due to recent events going down and the other members of DT coming out of there shell (via personal sites, twitter, FB etc), all the interviews and communication that JLB has done over the last few weeks and with the fans really getting to know him, he is on the fast track in my books to become my fav member of the band.

As a gutarist and JP man-crush candidate, i must say the James is really positioning himself as the true front man for this band (where as JP & JR are the driving force musically) and I am really quite excited about this. I never realised how sincere and genuine he really is a person and just an all round cool guy whereas before I didnt really knwo what to think of him except for his exceptional voice.

Im sure im not the only who feels this way...talk about a silver lining...

under a glass moon. i dont know much about singing but i know theres no fuckin way i could pull that off (or anything he does lol). but yeah the interviews are quite awesome, and personally i think him and petrucci are the souls of dt, which is what i thought from day one (charlie wasnt bad though). tbh i never saw mp as important as people make him out to be in the band.

I've always liked reading his interviews, which seemed a lot more honest and interesting than Mike's "official company slogan" interviews.  However, I think a big part of that is the interviewer.  Mike probably had stock answers ready for the typical "how awesome is this album?" and "how have you guys survived for this long?" questions, and the interviewers typically ask JP and JLB more interesting questions.  But if all of his interviews from now on are as cool as his recent ones, then I'll love him even more.  To me, JLB, JP, and JM are the only real irreplaceable members of the band now that MP is gone.  If JM left, but MP was still on board, at least 2/3 of the founding members would be on board.  JP is the main musical force, so without him there's no DT, but if James left, even if they kept pressing on, I don't think I could listen to them.  James is THE voice of Dream Theater, and the reason I like them so much in the first place.  Rock on, James!

I  :heart James.

In a funny way, he kind of reminds me of Michael Scott from The Office, both in the way he looks and the way he talks during his interviews.

But yeah, I totally see him becoming the new face of the band.

EDIT:  And can someone post the CJS photoshopped pic?  This thread totally needs it.

Love James. Love his solo records, and his contributions to DT. Love his interviews as of late, and at the last show, he was the only one who I got to hang out and talk to and get shit signed. He signed all my crap and answered all my questions. Completely professional.

Anyone else getting the feeling that the band has and will not ever have a frontman again? The way that the members are contributing is just so collective; nobody is outshining the other and the result is immensely cool.

Nobody does it better than him thats for sure. :neverusethis:

I have always stated, even when the rumors were out there, about James vocal troubles in the late 90's, that there is no DT without Labrie.  I just couldnt relate to the band with a replacement.  His vocals are what got me into the band back in 92 with Pull me Under and Take the Time. JLB has the best sense of humor.  His interviews are brilliant, fast-thinking and witty.  He is the soul of DT

As sad as it is that MP is gone, I dont feel any new studio material would suffer with his loss.  (Live maybe)

I think DT would be a whole other entity without JLB, one that I probably wouldnt like as much.

I've always liked James, then again I've always liked everyone else too.

Well,he was always my favorite member, from the first time i listened to his voice.
He was one of the main reasons i fell in love with DT.
He is irreplaceable indeed.

If LaBrie was no longer in Dream Theater, I would not think of them as the same. The truth is, while I would still check out the output that came after, I would think of it as a completely separate band. LaBrieless Dream Theater is no Dream Theater at all.

With James being the voice of DT, he is the one you connect with. He is the one you feel the intended lyrically emotions. It is so good that he can actually be the public voice of Dream Theater. The way he conducts himself in interviews and got over his difficulties in the past is a true inspiration to younger front-men.

I tip my tricorn to the Cap'n.

Not sure on it...

Makes me feel sad as he looks old. He will probably get it dyed again before the SI tour.

TheCor

If he was planning on cutting his hair anyway, he really should have fully embraced the pirate theme and went with some nasty ass pirate-esque dreads for awhile before he cut it off.

Anyone thinks James looks like Michael Dougals with that short hair?

Hopefully. The only problem is the fact that most of his hair is gray.

I'm certainly not gonna complain about all of the recent JLB activity in the press.  But, let's not forget that he has a solo album to promote, guys.  That's one of the main reasons for the interviews.  It just happens to coincide with one of the most tumultuous periods in DT's recent history.

That said, he's carrying himself very well.  I hope it continues for a long time.  Rock on, James!!!

I'm hoping there's ponytail back there that we can't see.  It looks like the hair on the top of his head is being pulled back, so maybe there's a pony.  I like my lead singers with with long hair.  I hope he grows it out again over the holiday season for the next album.

He has stated in interviews that he has cut his hair.

James can be appreciated in many ways.  The most simple way would be to spell his last name properly.  :p
