I just dont "get" FII as an album, which is generally adored by many  on this board,  (T of Tears is the one exception), I was not a fan of the bands direction at this point.  :flame:

Six Degrees - A 42 minute suite of B/C grade riffs with almost no completely interesting sections. Pass.

Couldn't disagree more, Six Degrees has some of the most interesting and unique melodies than DT has written in a long time IMO. Probably the only "true" epic that DT has ever written.

This, the melodies, the themes. All of it. Probably the best piece of work DT has written.

Die, In a fire, right now.

I dont get how people hate Lines in the Sand. probably the best song off of FII. And learning to live has the best Vocal solo. ever. of all time.

Mine is Blind Faith and Misunderstood. Both of these are in Chaos in Motion TO, and they almost ruined the DVD for me.

6 notes in a row for 5 seconds isn't a vocal solo.

Maybe by your definition.

Adami

Eh. Even if it is, there are far far better vocal "solos" out there in music.

My bad, Surrounded. Goes to show how memorable those songs are to me.

Zook

That was a terrible performance of Blind Faith anyway. I'm so glad James got a new coach.

Mladen

I dunno, he's pretty damn good on Blind faith, except for the chorus when he tries to hold some of the notes for a while. Surrounded, on the other hand... God, make him stop! Where's the energy?

It's not a vocal solo by any stretch of the imagination. It is amazing I will agree, but the rest doesn't quite match up to that moment.

And about the Lines in the Sand statement, are you not aware of Trial of Tears?  ;)

I never understood how you can hate ACOS to the degree that you seem to.

But now that I know you don't like Awake either, well that explains a bit more.

That begs the question how someone can not like DT's second best album though.

How? He didn't mention I&W. But it does make me wonder how someone can not like DT's best album.

Forsaken has an awesome piano riff and verse riff. However everything else about it is terrible, including every vocal melody in the song.

I don't hate Awake, it has some awesome moments, like Lifting Shadows Off A Dream and parts of Erotomania and Scarred, but I just don't like the album as a whole, certainly not to the degree that pretty much everybody on DTF does. And A Change of Seasons just does nothing for me, ever. It just seems kind of boring and drawn out, but thats just my opinion. I love I&W, maybe my favorite overall DT album, just Awake and A Change of Seasons aren't my thing.

I forgot As I Am. DT's worst song IMHO.
Forsaken would like a word with you.
Forsaken is slightly redeemed with great guitar and piano riffs. Still, not that great of a song.

antigoon

I don't think there's anything wrong with Forsaken. It's not exactly memorable, though. Kinda just there.

Tsev Eyd Ecaps

Trial of Tears.  Maybe because when compaired to all their other lengthy songs it just doesnt hold up in my eyes.  I do still give it the listen to every so often.

For me it's the vocal melodies, they just sound horrible and out of place. The music though, is just kind of there.....with a cool piano riff.

Through Her Eyes, Vacant, Wither, and a good chunk of The Best of Times.

Oh, and maybe The Ministry of Lost Souls to a lesser extent.

Not really. Petrucci's guitar riffs on that song sound.... I dunno how to describe it but its incredibly disjointed to me. There's just something inherently wrong with the riffs in that song to me. I don't know how to describe it, but its a MAJOR turn-off. The piano bits are cool though, but do not redeem the song at all. And the solo is meh.
