I knew a guy who was a huge DT fan and he didn't care for SFAM.  He thought it was too heavy at the time (they hadn't really done anything like Beyond this Life yet, so that was too heavy for him).  The first song I heard was Strange Deja Vu because a leaked copy of it had been going around the internet and I had it for a good month before the album actually came out.  I thought that song was AMAZING, but when I heard the rest of the album, I actually thought it kind of sucked.

Then, I stopped being a dumbass and realized it's a masterpiece.  :lol

Yeah, out of the whole discog, I would say that fans would be least likely to leave with the release of SFAM.

I don't think I could ever say that I don't like Dream Theater. No matter where there music goes I will always love them. There music has inspired me so much, and was really the first thing I could say I had a passion for. They have sparked my interest to play the drums and continually expand my love for progressive music. Shame on those people who jumped ship at SFAM. Dream Theater will always be in my heart, they have done so much for me and I thank all of them.

Anyone who thought Beyond This Life was too heavy must not have paid attention to The Mirror...

Perpetual Change

Just goes to show you: DT fans have harbored misguided feelings about the band "changing" for at least a decade.
