Did they get a chance to play the AA suite in its entirety live?

Nope. Not at all. Now the chances are quite diminished.

The year is 2017, and it's January 29th. Dream Theater have just gotten off a winter break during the "An Evening With" tour for their 14th album and they're pulling a secret surprise for the second set where, after some hidden set changes, a second drum riser is pulled out on the stage and the opening static to "The Glass Prison" plays. Over the course of the next 55 minutes, Mike Portnoy joins the band and they play the entire "Twelve Step Suite", then a rendition of "The Mirror" similar to the one on LSFNY, then close the second set with "The Best Of Times", the first and only time it would ever be played. They come back for an encore where Mike thanks the New York fans for their support and hopes they've enjoyed the band's show that night at Madison Square Garden, where he says he's happy to be able to play with Dream Theater once more, especially at MSG. Then they launch into "A Change Of Seasons" and the night would be one for the books.

Probably the best part about the departure, that this abomination never saw the light of day.

this has nothing to do with Mike. I always considered the playing of the whole AA thing as a terrible idea. The AA suite started out as a great idea, but then morphed into a neverending story, stretched out far beyond what made sense.
While the reason for it is lamentable, I'm simply happy that a proper DT DVD release wasn't wasted on this thing.

Not how I would have worded it, but definitely this. I liked some of the songs in the suite, but really didn't want to see it live.

To be honest I think the entire set would drag if played in its entirety.

I didn't see it as an attack on MP, it was a short bash at DT, the tone of which was completely unnecessary.

Dublagent66

I definitely can't see them playing the suite, but does anybody think they'll even play the songs individually again?  I honestly can't see that happening either.

2Timer

I think they'll play the songs by themselves. There are some pretty cool songs in there. TROAE is a great live song.

DarkLord_Lalinc

The Glass Prison is one of their best songs. I get the Space-Dye Vest thing, considering Kevin Moore wrote the music, the lyrics, everything. But let's be serious, lots of the AA riffs, passages, etc. are Petrucci's. I know that the lyrics mean something important and big to Mike, but it wouldn't be fair to stop playing these songs because the lyricist left. They were released under the Dream Theater name, and they stay under the Dream Theater name.

hefdaddy42

I'd be a little surprised if they didn't still play TGP.  The rest of it, I don't know.
