I have a feeling that he will come back.

TheKillingHand

I think that perhaps they agreed to continue temporarily for a few years with a different drummer to give Mike a break, with the intention that he will eventually come back...but they have announced it as a definite split so people will accept and take the new guy seriously while he's there and not be constantly asking 'so when's Mike coming back?' Maybe I'm being too optimistic. It just doesn't sound right that Mike would ever leave his 'baby' forever.

Thoughts?

If you had asked me yesterday if he was ever going to leave DT it wouldn't have sounded right either. But alas.

That's exactly what I was saying in my previous post. All that "DT is my baby and I won't desert it, we're always gonna stick together etc. etc." in all those interviews was clearly completely sugar-coated. Realistically, we know jack shit what really went down in this breakup.

I agree...I dont see him coming back, I think he sees that his time is done there, and for whatever reason it was time to go.

Id be more optomisitc IF THEY HAD A BIG FIGHT... and feelings were hurt, but this was a business decision and maybe a creative one.

I think time will tell is the best answer to give at this current moment.

I really don't think he'll be back. There's no way in hell he'd be able to participate in the band without the same level of control he held before his departure.

ZBomber

I think MP will certainly want to return in a few years, I just dunno if the other members will want him back at that point.

rumborak

In light of the new development, I'm almost tempted to reset the poll.

Voted no - I can imagine him playing at some sort of reunion concert thing, but a complete return? I don't think so. I am convinced that MP will want to return at some point, but the rest of the band is moving on and I cannot see them just fire whoever they choose to be the new drummer.

The only way it might turn out that way is if somehow it doesn't work out with the new drummer and MP "comes to the rescue".

ShadowWalker

After reading that link he put on his Twitter page, it is almost daring the band to be successful without him (much like Waters did to Floyd). I don't see him going back to them, at least at this point in time...

PixelDream

It feels weird for me that the reason I'm playing DT now, is MP leaving the band. The last year or so I've been exploring mostly other bands, and have been giving DT a rest, it goesalmost unnoticed.

So I popped in Score, checked out Octavarium and Metropolis. Absolutely amazing, still. And as for MP's performance: there are TONS of great drummers, and MP isn't THE best drummer in the world, but these are BIG shoes to fill. His drumwork is all over the place, it's crazy. Can't imagine someone replicating each and every little thing, or make up something himself that's equally good or better. As a stage performer, I'd say he outshines everyone in the band.

I kind of hope DT continue, but if they keep going ahead with the 'epic' stuff that has always been their niche, I'm a bit afraid it would come off as sounding forced. The only way I see post-MP DT becoming a success, is if they go down a different path musically.

Oh jeez, reset it every day and we'll get new results. Nothing has changed. Mike will get his shit out of his system, and in 3 years time I'm guessing, he'll be back. Pure speculation on my part, but I'm simply stating my instinctual response.
