DT's New Drummer (merged thread)

People like Jarzombek, Donati, Mangini or Bozzio are totally, totally different drummers, but could work very well within DT, imo.

Jarzoembek probably, manigini totally. Donati and Bozzio? Meh. They can pull it off, but they're style just aren't metal in the slightest bit, DT would have to go WAY more prog, which they won't do.

Donati isn't a metal drummer per se, true, but he can pull it off. Like he did with Vai (who has a couple of really metal-ish songs) Live at the Astoria in London.

Bozzio could really do it. I actually said they could pull it off. But why get someone who can pull it off, when you can get someone who is naturally already like that?

Because of the new chances and new influences you get as a band. And that's something I totally hope DT would do.

It's not that I wouldn't have listened to another album with MP

It's just that I would love to hear what the DT guys would compose and think of when Virgil Donati would be in the band.

It would end up sounding like Planet X or something. Which is fine, but it's not what I want out of DT. I've always enjoyed that they weren't strictly technical prog.

With all respect, I don't think adding 1 guy to DT would make them sound like the band that one guy came from.
And that's why I'm interested, to see how 1/5 of Planet X would make DT sound.

I don't know about new DT with a new drummer. I thought BC&SL was a good album, but then again, I'm fed up with their ballsy prog metal style. And it's not like I don't like heavy. I watched ACOS (from Scenes) yesterday after ages not listening to it. It was amazing, and it would be really something if they could return to such passion again. What a composition, damn.

DT having someone like Donati would really spice up their sound and make it fresh IMO.  Donati can do his fair share of metal.  Check out his Ring of Fire stuff too, okay, that's more power metal but he does amazing nevertheless.

I think I'll be realistic, and don't expect DT to shake up their "success formula" too much. So, as much as I would love to see DT with someone like Donati, I'm afraid that would deviate DT's style too much for them to actually dare.

Yeah, I can see this happening. Probably will want to get some promo photos done, too.

I know a lot of people want to know who the 7 drummers are, but thinking about it the other day, I highly doubt they'll reveal any of the names other than the one that they picked. I mean, if i was auditioning for them and I didn't make it, I'm not sure if I'd want that known. Then again, just being picked to do an audition might be big enough news in itself... but I think it's kind of like getting that big part - if you don't make it, do you want it known?

I guess having their names revealed would be more so up to them and maybe less so to the band, who I am sure will respect the auditioning drummers' wishes if they don't want their names reveal.

Right, depends on each person's own resume. Some people could be "I wasn't picked, but DT thought highly enough of me to at least give me a chance." Like getting dumped by the hot girl at school. Yeah, she dumped you, but how many guys can say they actually had a chance to go out with her in the first place?
