OOooo
I know.
I know.

Vinnie Paul.
he's got the feet for it.

OperantChamber

I have faith that the guys will choose someone extremely talented. Very excited to see who they pick.

Martin Lopez or Mike Mangini plz.

FiberglassMoon

The clear and obvious choice is Derek Roddy.  Perfect match.

I still belive in Andrea Vadrucci as he is kind of unknown and fit perfectly well to DT.

But for a crazy turn over and a totally mind blowing fusion.. i would LOVE to see horacio "El negro" Hernandez with DT. El Negro Hernandez is by far my fav drum player.

I just can't imagine how crazy it would be... my head blowing as i hear it.. wow!!!

From what I've seen, Andrea Vadrucci is rather a one-man show than a band guy. Also, I don't think that he would really fit in there.

antigoon

I hope they don't get some youtube phenom :lol

What about El Negro Hernandez??? with him DT could become the greatest and ultimate progressive Band in History... He would add so much to the sound... they could create tons of new trends/genres in music. Its time to explore and DT with El negro Hernandez could travel to places no body in history have been before.

Wow.. i just can dream!!! i know it will not happen.

I am thinking of a seasoned pro to jump in-Rod Morgenstein, for starters.

MP was hell bent on keeping DT very heavy since ToT
If you're going to make things up, people aren't going to take you seriously.

Not sure what you are talking about.  Just stating an opinion, you can just state why you disagree.

Okay, while it is obvious that Portnoy has brought certain elements of newer metal in the band's sound on the last few albums, to outright say, "He was hell bent on keeping DT very heavy since ToT," is rather silly, and doesn't make a lot of sense.

"Very heavy" has always been a part of the band's sound.  ALWAYS.

Plus, Octavarium, the first album AFTER ToT, is probably their 2nd least heaviest album (behind FII).

again, I hope its an unknown guy, who has his own style and can do some back up vocals..

I dont want another bands drummer and the baggage of that..and then the comparisons to Mike,

I do not want a Mike Clone..that would be stupid and fugazy

I don't think that Ian Mosley will join DT. :neverusethis:

Hopefully they'll not going make a somekind of a reality show in finding a new drummer...

Satrucci

Probably they won't hire anyone. Just a one-shot deal with some other guys you've already mentioned.

And yes, shoes these big won't fill very easy.

My prediction would be that there will one main guy for the new album, hired/announced shortly before recording the album. But, if the guy works out, they will stick with him. I don't see DT becoming a revolving door for drummers.

The interesting part will be: What will the drummer do live for old songs? Play the drum parts fill by fill according to MP's playing, or put his own twist on things?

Thats a cool idea.  He already has good chemistry with Jordan and Myung (at least I assume so).

Edit: watching some videos now.  Rod is sounding like a very VERY good choice.

I can't come to realize how many drummers are actually approaching DT right now.

perfey

Some guy (or garl, but thats highly unlikely) in the 40's, or a young unknown inspired person who knows all the DT in his back pocket and has some twists and originality to the drumming.

What if a girl did join DT?

perfey

^^ Yeah, I thought about that, it would be a very drastic change, but I bet there's a lot of god metal and prog woman drummers out there too, but maybe not so well known. It's a cool thought but like I said very unlikely that's going to happen.

I have yet to see a really GOOD female drummer. I've seen great girl guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, singers and hookers, but just mediocre at best drummers so far. I expect a few youtube links soon to prove me wrong.

They got some speed, well two of them did anyway. But nothing they did seemed extremely impressive. However, they were better than any of the drummers I have seen before, by quite a bit.

You mean traditional grip? Why not? I mean, it doesn't feel natural when I do it, but some people REALLY pull it off.
