^That.  And we also only have a small sample size of votes:  only 80 out of a fanbase of thousands.

Replace Scenes with Falling Into Infinity and you have me.

Lately, I've been feeling the same way.  SFAM and FII share time at #4.

Irrelevant.  They are still both off topic and counterproductive to any positive discussion.
Cool then. Have fun with your biased rules, you have one less "troublemaker" from this point. Celebrate.

Darkes, for the last and final time, stop stirring up pointless BS.  The very next time I see your name anywhere near any controversy in any thread on this forum, you are out of here for good.  I'm tired of seeing yet another thread derailed because you see an opinion you don't like and internalize it and blow it out of proportion.
Wth are you talking about? It's not me who started it, not me who derailed the thread, and not me who was complaining about anything. All I did is a brutal crime which was posting my ranking of the albums like lots of people in the thread. And yes, I do feel I have the right to be annoyed when people continuously point out what's "wrong" with my rankings yet if I ever do the same thing it's considered thread derailing, baiting, or however the hell it's called in your dictionary.

I'd be grateful if this time you actually replied, as it's something that hasn't happened for a longer time.
It most certainly was you who started it. You ranked I&W low, and someone commented on it. They didn't attack you, or belittle you, and they haven't spoken to you about it before, they just expressed surprise at ranking it so low. When are you going to realise that not every single person follows every one of your threads, so when you mention something like that, there is bound to be someone new who will be surprised by your opinion because the album is generally beloved among the fanbase.

Nobody had a go at you, nobody told you that your opinion should change. He expressed surprise, and you instantly took it to heart and derailed the thread into the same discussion you always seem to have. You need to stop blaming other people for absolutely everything, take a step back and chill out.

Makes me  :sadpanda:  I think its a million if we consider a world wide audience...at least I hope...

and don't you love when someone makes a great point on the last post of a page...it always gets ignored.

I doubt it.  They haven't even sold a million copies of any of their albums.  But I was using "thousands" loosely.  It is surely in the hundreds of thousands.

Well, maybe the discussions on the DT side will improve a bit now.

In Darkes' defense (shocking I know) he did know how to lay down his arguments well, it was just those one or two lines either at the beginning or end of every long response that voided pretty much everything good he brought up. Sure he kept pointing out how much he didn't like Images, for example, which honestly is fine but it was the response to his follow-up defense of the argument before anyone had even tried to counter it in any way that was incredibly baffling. I honestly don't believe he didn't realize stuff like "well I don't like this album, but I guess I'm not 'exposed' enough to like that kind of music" would cause such responses, though.

Replace Awake and 6DOIT with Octavarium and BC&SL (I don't particularly have a set order)

All but Six Doit.

Not really sure how I would rank it after those three.

That pretty much exactly describes my feeling towards Darkes as well.

1) SFAM
2) I&W
2a) ACOS
3/4) Awake/FII depending on my mood on any given day
5) the bonus covers disc from BC&SL

6) ToT (on the strength of how well the material translated live)
7) WDADU

all the rest, all of which are dust collectors on my shelf...

This is a sick question and I just can't answer it in the poll. I&W and 6DOIT definitely make my top 4, but SFAM is only there sometimes and Awake is only a top 4 for me rarely. My rankings are really fluid depending on my mood, but it's something like...

I&W, 6DOIT
---
8VM, TOT, SFAM, BCSL
---
Awake, FII
---
SC
---
WDADU

There's no order within the tiers, and if I'm really digging a certain song at the time any album can jump up a few notches. It's such a great question, but the way I look at DT albums means I can't answer it.

The King in Crimson

My top 5 ranking changes all the time. Awake is usually at the top, sometimes I&W, but never SFAM.

1. Awake
2. Scenes from a Memory
3. Images and Words
4. Octavarium
5. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
6. Falling into Infinity
7. Train of Thought
8. Systematic Chaos
9. Black Clouds and Silver Linings
10. When Day and Dream Unite

I won't lie, if I were that lukewarm to the discography I definitely wouldn't be here.

Seriously. The covers disc?

That's the first time I've seen him not use :neverusethis: in a post.

Also, replace Awake with Octavarium, and those would be my top 4.

Seriously. I think JLB's singing is exponentially better, more dynamic and much more emotional on the covers disc (maybe not the Maiden cover, but the rest for sure) than anything he sings on the main disc. I find the music to be more interesting, more powerful and much more enjoyable than anything the band has done in the wake of SFAM. It reminds of what DT used to be (which makes sense as these are songs that were influential in the band's formative years).

As for me being lukewarm and still here, I have my reasons. Mainly I have a ton of respect for the members as individual musicians. Each in their own way is more than worthy of supporting. I still approach any new music with an open mind, hoping there is something to latch on to (i.e. I really enjoy The Best of Times). It's just the direction the band went in starting with SDOIT is not necessarily in the direction my tastes as a consumer of music have gone.

I still see the band when they come around and as a band, they have provided me with enough good memories that I don't mind continuting to support them, even if the music does not resonate with me any longer...
