It's also the title of a really bad tabloid newspaper in the UK (The Mirror).

I think something simple yet recognizable like Metropolis sounds good. It could have a tag line like "Metropolis - The source for Dream Theater news" to draw hits and make clear what the website is about.

Currently metropolis.com is taken, but if you want to get a domain in the future it could be something like dtmetropolis.com

Just my 2c.

Haha after I posted it, I did the exact same thing in checking for domain names!  :lol Except I was looking at dt-metropolis.com or metropolis-dt.com lol. But yeah, unfortunately both metropolis.com and .org are taken by some random crap.

Alright, I'm gonna give this about 24 hours. I hate to do it so quick, but I don't want to wait forever to launch. I love a ton of the suggestions, but my favorite three are:

Metropolis

The Ytse Times

Newsavarium

Post which of those three you like the best. If you like one that isn't listed even more, say it too. If a ton of people like one that isn't one of those three, then we'll have another round. Thanks a ton. GO!

I like "Metropolis". Simple, concise, well-known. Also, you should consider starting a poll for this - might be easier to keep track of.

My only issue with Metropolis is that it's not immediately obvious what it relates to. Could be a Superman news site. I mean, obviously, a closer look would make it pretty instantly obvious, but Ytse and -Varium only refer to Dream Theater.

Think the key to success is to make it unmistakable. So my vote goes to the other two. If that's allowed.

Yeah, the first thing I think of is the movie, but as soon as people see the site I don't think they'll be too confused. It'll say something about DT News right at the top.

Setlist Scotty

It's a late entry, but what about the "Theater of New Dreams"? (with each entry being a "dream")

or "Scenes From Dream Theater's Memories"?

or since "Ytse" and "varium" are the most "distinct" wordings of DT, what about "Ytsevarium"?

If none of those, I actually like "Black Clouds and Silver Headlines" best.

And if pushed to chose one of the 3 listed, I'll go with The Ytse Times, tho I think The Ytse Tribune might be a bit better.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

People won't really be searching for it by name though. The discoverability will either occur through links in forums, blogs, twitter, or via word-of-mouth, where context is readily available. Also, if you're on a search engine and you type in "Dream Theater News" and a page called "Metropolis" pops up, you'll understand that it is relevant, especially because the page's <title> will be displayed, which will likely be something along the lines of "Metropolis | Dream Theater News & Updates".

Oh no, that's completely true. I don't anticipate much in the way of confusion, either. I just think it's a stronger brand that way. Less generic.

Not to mention, in the massive abyss of the internet, I think something a little more unique is necessary. Say you remember stumbling across this brilliant fledgling Dream Theater news site, and you think you can just about remember its name, it'd be nice were it the top result for that search string. Metropolis could be several things. The Ytse Tribune (I also prefer Tribune) is always the Ytse Tribune.

Might just be thinking in boring marketing prose, though. Scotch is a tape and a whiskey, both do fine. For a while WWF was a wildlife charity and a group of burly men hugging each other. It's not unprecedented. Just my selection process. Think it'd be easier. Don't think any of the names are liable to be a mistake.

Yeah fair enough. In the end, I'm sure all the names would be good, it's just personal preference. As to the logistics of how the site will actually operate - now there's a matter for debate. :)

The Ytse Times is catchy. I think most fans will know what they're looking at when that comes up.

I like "Black Clouds and Silver Headlines" but I fear it might be too long, most things are short or shortened (Google, Bing, DTF) because they're easier to remember and it's also centric to a single album, where Ytse or Metropolis are pretty popular to most fans.

I have no problem with Tribune over Times, I was thinking of like the NY Times is bigger than most Tribunes.   I find it ironic that we're still naming blogs and websites with newspaper terms.

LieLowTheWantedMan

The Ytse Times is pretty badass... Thats my favourite of the voting options.
