i think im the only one here who likes TSF in its entirety.
Not just you.

And I can't see any problem with This Dying Soul instrumental section, as it's either around 2 minutes long, or it's good enough that it has always felt like just two minutes to me.

I'm guessing you don't really like SFAM then?

Are you seriously comparing the 12SS to SFAM? The 12SS feels like one giant 60 minute song with forced theme reprisals every 10 minutes, whereas SFAM is a concept album with many different songs that sound wildly different, and the theme reprisals occur at the end of the album and neither sound forced nor out of place.

Well said.  I could not agree more! :tup :tup

hmm, yknow i just read everything everyone said, and all i can think is "have any of you guys listened to the suite as one piece?"

now im sure there will be better transitions between songs live, since a couple of them are shaky with the studio versions.

but as one piece, it is a monster song!  :metal :metal :metal

TSF sounds a hell of a lot better in context of the suite than it does on BC&SL. i believe it has to come full circle, for Octavarium. the "Medicate" melody from Octavarium is part of TROAE which ties in Octavarium with the 12 Step Saga. so when i heard TSF for the first time, i thought, it makes sense, they were planning it all along (maybe, Octavarium's concept is pretty far reaching outside its respective album)

and it is definitely not boring, they are some of the heaviest, fastest and more insane songs DT has written, save for Repentance

:hefdaddy Twelve Step Saga

(btw it will be performed live, probably for their next live album)

^That's exactly what i was trying to say. The heaviest AA suite song.

it really is. and i  :heart the Rudess solo section, the riffs are so HEAVY!  :metal i'll admit, the transition into the TROAE chorus is a little shaky, but otherwise i think it a well crafted "underture" (if that's a real thing...)

It's a well crafted conclusion to a metal song. I hope to one day see this live.
