What a horrible roster of bands for those festivals. I'd rather sit through a country & western festival from 1940.

Stone Sour? Disturbed? Portnoy? I"m fine with that.

Also, there was some other band (forgot their name) with a chick singer, I checked them out and was really impressed.

Disturbed called themselves the "Gods of metal" on stage before. I think I'll pass.

The man is insane, he never gets a break. He's always working

They have a good sound, even if they have made 3 (or is it 4?) albums of nothing but that exact same sound.

I don't care if the singer is a douche bag, it doesn't make me enjoy them less.

Plus he sounds great live, so more power to him for actually being able to deliver.

BTW, no work until 2011 on new DT work? That's quite a while. Oh well, it probably means side projects, like Jelly Jam and a new JP solo album. Which sounds good to me, I'm kinda in a lull about DT lately.

Eh, each album has one or two good songs on it, while the rest is just average at best. My opinion of the band has dropped severly over the past year or so.

I remember I saw A7X once a while back. I had never heard their music before, but my friends were huge fans. I remember being extremely impressed with their stage presence. They really got the GNR vibe going on well, and they REALLY knew how to present themselves.
YES. You understand. A lot of people give Sevenfold shit for the way they act and appear on stage. They seem to get lumped in with the 'new wave' of metalcore bands that care more about their appearance and attitude than their music. I get the feeling that if G'n'R were a new band to arrive on the scene, looking how they looked and sounding how they sounded back in the 80s and 90s, people would pour scorn upon their hair and makeup and call them 'emo' or 'scene.' Many are too quick to dismiss a band purely because of their look, without even listening to them.

It's no surprise that metal and prog fans in general are close minded as fuck. They bash new bands for having an image, but if you look at 80's metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth and even Dream Theater, these bands had an image too. Judas Priest and Slayer and every fucking band out there has an image. It just so happens that these are images we are familiar with so it seems normal (for Kerry King to wear spiked bracelets for example) but a metalcore band with tattoos and eyeliner is considered a shitty money milking band.

I laugh each time Megadeth fans bash Marty Friedman for his current sense of fashion. Yeah because platform shoes are so much more worse than leather pants right.

Unfortunately, Avenged Sevenfold's image puts off a lot of people before they even have a chance to listen to them.

He's also doing a big tour with Transatlantic, so that renders your post invalid.

Darkes7

I'm glad to see he's not afraid of doing what he wants and participates in a rather wide variety of different bands and projects. I've listened to a bit of A7X and it's not exactly my style, but they certainly can play and it's great to see MP join them if both sides feel very good about it.

Good luck from me to MP and A7X, I hope both will benefit from this and will enjoy the tour. ;)

rumborak

From listening to a couple of their songs, it doesn't seem very interesting from the drumming perspective. Is this an erroneous impression?

rumborak

antigoon

I'm glad DT is sort of breaking from their usual routine, however minor that break may be.

Not at all IMO. I've always thought The Rev was a great drummer, but his work in A7X never fell into the "interesting" category. He's got a couple of killer drum tunes in there, though.

I kinda agree, I heard lots of people talking about how The Rev is one of the best metal drummers, and while he's a fine drummer, I've never heard anything in A7X that really stands out in any way.

The Rev was a great mix between punk and metal drumming. And he was also a talented pianist and vocalist... did some guitar work too.

Also DT and A7X = my top 2 bands! Please tell me they are coming farther south in Florida than Tampa.

Wow, DT is really on break, and not just "not touring".

I knew it.

Hopefully that means there will be some good music in 2011/2012.

Shit, that's a long time.

Nic35

Eh, they are touring this summer. They'll have a break until Christmas I guess, and they'll most likely go back in the studio in February next year.

Please enlighten me as to the "image" Metallica and Megadeth had back in the 80s. Since I was in my mid-teens then and they were 2 of my favorite bands, I'm anxious to know about this image I must have not noticed . . .

portnoy doesn't care about DT anymore... you know what let's take avenged sevenfolds drummer.  Haha that will show them!

What?

Anyways, I'm so excited, as I absolutely love A7X (from Waking the Fallen onward). I'm really sorry about The Rev, but this is the best possible situation that could have came from it, and I know Jimmy would be happy about this.

As far as I know, Jordan doesn't know any resurrection spells. I may be wrong, though  :D

prob his best song. more importantly pay attention (its impossible to miss) at 2:51. but why the rev is one of my favorite drummers is that he throws in sick fills that are just awesome

You know, they sound like a respectable metal band, but I find their music sooo unexciting. Weird (to me) that MP would offer his services there.
