Sort of a stupid question, but the album booklets can sometimes carry on the album cover or expand upon the idea.

I choose Octavarium because of the 5:8 references inside. Black Clouds is a close second because of the fish out of the water in the beaker

wat?

*Looks up in Booklet*

HOLY FUCKING SHI-
Footnote: I actually did that.

Well, I guess the best Booklet art comes from 8VM, ToT and 6doit are the best ones in IMO. 8VM for their nuggets, ToT for their dark ambient and surreal photos, and 6DoiT because... I like it :P

kirbywelch92

I think Octavarium is really the go-to place for visuals predominantly due to the connection of the 5:8 theme and whatnot. If Dream Theater put the same level of nuggetism in their other albums than we would have a real question on our hands, but in this case notsomuch.

I think that every album since SDOIT has very nice booklet so it's hard to choose the best one of those five but I will go with BC&SL for this poll

Global Laziness

Actually upon further reflection, I think I'd like to change my vote from Train of Thought to Octavarium. I can't change it in the poll, so just use your imaginations.

STEVETHEATER

Octavarium... gotta love those nuggtz ;D

I really like the Octavarium booklet. And no, not for the nuggets, I couldn't care less about that. The booklet has a very good style and I love the pictures.

Mebert78

Idk, I always end up picking Awake for all polls - favorite artwork ,booklet, overall album, production, etc.  I just love everything about that album more than the others.

I love the texture of the Train booklet as well as the art.

Simply beautiful.

Darkes7

The other way around from the artwork thread - SFAM is my favourite, as it just perfectly fits the album and the feeling of 1928. It's simple, but perfect. Octavarium is second.

LTE

I really like the look of the SDOIT booklet, the shots of the band members, infusion of the anatomy drawings in there, etc.

Ben_Jamin

FII fits the mood of the album. I like the two guys looking at each other and you looking at them through binoculars

I love most things about Awake, but the booklet (cover aside) is pretty mediocre. It's just a shot of the band jamming and a basic lyric layout.

Mladen

Looks like pretty much all of us agree on Octavarium.  ;) ;D

DarkLord_Lalinc

As far as booklet goes, Train of Thought.

Quadrochosis

I voted Octavarium here but the booklet for Systematic Chaos has an ear in the glass of juice on the picnic shot, that lent itself to a nice little inside joke in a thread here a few years back ("Hey, what's the deal with that ear?")

ToT

but BC&SL is too close...

EDIT: oh no, I screwed that up...this thread is about the booklet, then my favourite is BC&SL and cover artwork is ToT.

Dcrupi

8vm, without a doubt.  Favorite cover art, favorite booklet.

...what IS the deal with that ear? Is it a nod to something?

Gadough

I find it odd that Octavarium seems to be everyone's favorite Dream Theater album for reasons other than the album itself.

1. It has what is apparantly considered the best album booklet.
2. It also won the best album cover poll.
3. Everyone seems to love the title track.

Yet, when viewing the album as a whole, many fans look down upon it.

BRGM

Yeah, that's wierd ,because the entire album is verry good, maybe The Answer lies within and I walk beside u can almost be a little boring

setrataeso

Probably Black Clouds. As much as I love teh nuggetz, I prefer the design of the Black Clouds booklet.

?

My favourite booklet is the one for Black Clouds & Silver Linings because of the nice pictures. Train of Thought booklet is also very good.

Most people don't really consider the album artwork and booklet when judging the album. As awesome as artwork can be, if the music sucks that's what I'm going to focus on. (Just to clarify, I'm not saying the Octavarium album sucks by any means, but based on your reasoning, artwork, design, and one very highly rated track aren't enough to propel an album to people's favourites.)

RoeDent

I voted for Octavarium, but I do have one problem with the artwork. I would've thought that the boy would be speaking through the can on the first page and listening on the last page (instead of the other way round, as it is), so that the boy is relaying the lyrics and then recieving them at the other end.

Minor thing really...

ScioPath

He isn't supposed to be relaying the lyrics. Conceptually, and it's kind of weird, but the boy's future self, after learning the lessons tought throughout the album, is giving advice to his past self, closing the circle and aiding Octavarium's theme of "It ends where it began."

RoeDent

But how can he have learnt the lessons from the album if he hasn't heard them yet? That's the impression I get from Page 1.
