Hey guys,

I met a fair number of you at the Worcester and MSG shows.  I was with DreamTheaterVT.  I figured it was about time I joined this place.  I don't remember everyone I met, so if you remember meeting me with DTVT, let me know!

Same here you and DTVT were just showing up as I was leaving

So from what I've read on the IM fan club forum, it seems no one died at MSG.  People are claiming to have seen what happened and they say a guy got impatient waiting to get down the escalators in the D tower and jumped off the side of the escalator, getting his leg caught, and landing head first on the concrete.  Supposedly it wasn't that high, like 10 feet or so but enough to knock the guy out cold.  He was carted out on a stretcher with a neck brace.  I assume he didn't die only because if he did, the NYC papers would have this story all over.  Someone dying at MSG would be a big deal I think.  He most likely had a bad concussion or maybe broken neck and other bones.

Nick

I think an accidental death in NYC wouldn't really get all that much coverage.

Probably not much coverage, but I think a death at a concert would be news worthy. I remember a few years ago someone almost died at a Stones concert at Fenway and it was in the news.

Birch Boy

An 18-year old girl got kidnapped and murdered (they found that out about a month afterwards) at Metallica concert somewhere in the Eastern United States and I think that got a fair bit of media coverage... but maybe because there's not much going on where that happened.

Nick

Once again, bit of a difference between someone being KIDNAPPED AND MURDERED, and someone accidentally falling.

The other part of that is location.  8 million people live in NYC, you have to die spectacularly to get coverage there.
Morgan Harrington wandered away from a concert in Charlotteville, VA, which is a small college town with a major university.  If you die of anything other than natural causes, it makes news.  Also, being a pretty white girl makes the story sympathetic and will be devowered by the national media - being a metal head makes you insignificant in the eyes of the media.

cramx3

someone accidently dying wont make news in nyc unless it is of really crazy circumstances, but someone accidently dying at a concert at msg would definitely make news.

Nick

Yeah, if they were stomped to death in a mosh pit maybe, but not under these circumstances.

I haven't listened to the Iron Maiden bootleg (will listen to that soon), but the Dream Theater bootleg (both from DimeADozen.org) was really good. Good sound quality, and good set (to me), so I enjoyed it.

It's just as good, they were both done by the same guy.

Just listened to it last night, and it was very good!  :tup

I can't stop listening to the recordings of "As I Am" and "Constant Motion"... I love Mike Portnoy's backing vocals so much llive!

Dr. DTVT

Did anyone take a picture of the Madison Square Garden marquee that says Dream Theater / Iron Maiden?  If anyone did, would you mind sending it to me or linking to it; I'd like to use it as the "album cover" for the bootlegs.

Looks like the same MO as the videos for Kiss and AC/DC from MSG. Those did end up on Dime. Here's hoping this does as well.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

I laughed out loud the night of the concert when Mike Portnoy missed the stick twice in a row :lol
Only other time I ever saw him mess up a spin/toss/trick was when I saw them last summer but it was barely noticeable because the cameras were off him as soon as they saw it leave his hands accidentally.

Wow, the video of Blood Brother is epic. The crowd sounds soo loud, proud to be apart of that.  I really hope this shows up on dime.

Yea I was refering to the video.  I already got the video of the PNC show, which was pretty good.  I was so drunk that night, I didnt realize the show was sold out as Bruce said.  The crowd seems pretty dead overall in the video which is sad, but I remember it being pretty awesome.

Most shows do sell out.  Scalpers and ticket brokers buy up a lot seats when they first go on sale, and not all of those tickets end up making it to the fans hands because not everyone is willing or able to pay scalper prices.  I hate scalpers and brokers, but unfortunately they DO play a somewhat important role - when a band is looking at potential tour stops they can always say "Hey, we sold out *insert venue* the last 4 times, we should go back there."

I was stuck in the people traffic following the fall. The people in front of me said he had jumped! When I got by him, the paramedic was already there, and he was conscious.

The show was pretty killer. It was great to see everyone (Maiden fans included) singing to Pull me Under. I was hoping for a surprise or two.
