Wow, I just found out about this.

God...Wow. Awesome. If they're not coming to my city, I don't care if it's in the middle of finals week, I'm driving to see this.

Edit: Well, just saw the tour dates. It'll be summer time.

DarkLord_Lalinc

Holy crap...have you guys reazlied our very own DT are playing the Madison Square Garden?!

So, anyone think/hope there'll be joint encores like DT/QR?

Who wouldn't hope that? That would be amazing!

I hope someone would get a good quality video/sound recording though.

Dark Master Of Sin

Playing something like Hallowed be thy Name together or something would be very  :metal

TAC was the one who nailed the "Big DT news". Nice call TAC. He's also pegging the MSG show for a live recording or ytsejam boot.

If one show should be recorded, I think the Quebec City show should be the one. They are going to play in front of 100 000 and + people. This show is going to be kick ass.

But I pretty sure if there is a live DVD, it's gonna be filmed at the MSG.

Dark Master Of Sin

Seeing as Maiden did two dvds for their last tour, odds are good they record this one too.

I need to start a petition now for Dream Theater to bring out their version of To Tame a Land for this tour.

Tacky. You never cover the band you are opening for.

Do you guys think DT will play mostly metal seeing as they're opening for Maiden?

Nic35

I think they will. Most of the people will come to see Maiden, so it would be a little inapropriate to play songs like Octavarium or Scarred. We will see a lot of songs like Panic Attack, ANTR, Pull Me Under, etc.

Will there be a meet up of some sort for the MSG show?
Hopefully :birch:

Dream Theater or Iron Maiden filming the MSG show would be a dream come true.

I was thinking/dreaming about this earlier...

73109

Um...I hate to be bursting anyones bubble here, but Maiden is Maiden. DT is DT. They are no more than an opening act. One member might jam with Maiden and I even doubt that. Hell, do you guys actually think that DT is going to get more than 45 minutes to an hour to play their shit?

73109

Yeah, but how long do you think they will play for, and I still doubt that they are going to join them for an encore...and frankly, I don't think I want them to.

yeshaberto

what tour did they play perfect strangers together on?

I don't know. You could be right but I'm just saying Dream Theater opening for Iron Maiden isn't the same as some random band opening for Iron Maiden.

Cool Chris

I think Bruce joined them for PS when he was working solo during the 90s. In any case, 73109 is right, DT/QR were pretty much equals (despite how far one of them has fallen) and it makes more sense for them to perform encores together than it does DT and Maiden. I am sure DT is comfortable with this being Maiden's show/tour, with them as special guests.

But antigoon is right too. This isn't like Lauren Harris opening for them, just so the audience has something to listen to while they get beer and buy merch.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to see the two jam together at the end of the MSG show, at the least

Yes, I do think they'll get more than 45 minutes.  As I recall, on the tours with King'sX/Satriani and Fates/Queensryche, when DT opened, they got 80-90 minutes.  And those were 3-band tours, where there is less time per band than a 2-band tour.  I believe when they went out on the summer tour with Yes, they also got 80-90.  I can almost guarantee they'll get a 60-90 minute set.

And, yes, I can fully see them doing a joint encore.  Not saying they will, but it could very easily happen.  The bands do in fact have a history and a friendship, and DT are a very longstanding, well-established band that has the chops to play with Maiden, and who share a fanbase that would love to see such a thing happen onstage.  Something else they share in common is a history of going the extra mile for the fans.  So, yeah, I would think that there will be something special that occurs on this tour, whether it be joint encores or something else.

Off the top of my head, I am aware of two times:  Once onstage in L.A. on the FII tour (see the Ytsejam official boot) and once on air on Bruce's radio show (see the bonus CD from Lifting Shadows).  There may have been some other occasion where they did something together onstage (I seem to recall Mike mentioning somewhere that they did something with some of the Maiden guys in addition to Bruce, but I may be misremembering), but that's all that comes to mind at the present.

:lol The Yes/DT tour would like to have a word with you.

CrimsonE

Not to mention the Summer Sanitarium 03 tour when Limp Bizkit did Welcome Home--which metallica also did in their headlining set.  Of course, LB's version pretty much sucked.

ZOMG! They're playing Ottawa Bluesfest!
Must get tickets!

...Didn't Dream Theater play at MSG during the train of thought tour?
