My god. I never thought that listening to SFAM as a whole was such orgasmic. I've always listened to it in chunks, like I listened Home or Finally Free or Fatal Tragedy. When I listened to it the first time from start to beginning, I had to change my pants three times.

This album is their best work to listen as a whole. It's a real experience. I don't have always the time to all listen to it, but when I do, I thank myself for buying this album.

*appreciate*

icysk8r

I always listen to it whole, well, unless I just have one of the songs stuck in my head.  But it truely is a great album.  very atmospheric, you almost feel like you are nicholas or victoria or edward.  It isn't at all cheesy, and it seems very "real" to me.  Production value is great.  just an overall awesome album.  first or second favorite, about tied with awake.

InTheNameOfGod

I'd also say SFAM is their best album.

A definite 10/10

Dublagent66

It's definitely in my top 3.   :tup

Blind_FaithX

My favorite DT album evah.

My second favorite album evah (after Remedy Lane from PoS)

I think I like it.

Nic35

It really sucks that my CD bugs right during TSCO  I forgot how awesome this song is.

It was my first DT album. It was unlike anything I'd ever heard before, I became instantly obsessed and bought all of their other albums fast. Getting Scenes was my musical epiphany, ever since I've not been able to stop buying various albums and CDs, and my music collection has probably quadrupled at the very least as I search for something that can give me the same buzz that DT have done and continue to do so.

I discovered the album by accident too, it was 2007 and there was a four for £20 deal on certain CDs, and I needed a fourth CD, and I thought it looked cool, and I'd heard the name Dream Theater, so I got it

I have just realised I've rambled too much lol. But that's how my DT story began. Scenes is probably my favourite album of all time, there are other DT albums I can say are pretty much on the same level, but it's a bit more special to me as it was my first DT album and something completely new.

Jamariquay

Listened to the first half of this record today at the gym. And I must say, while I still feel somewhat iffy about Beyond This Life, something clicked today; I now think that it works great in the context of the album.

Regression through Fatal Tragedy has got to be the best opening tracks to any Dream Theater album to date though.

blackngold29

I bought Live Scenes before the studio version, so it was different going back to the studio version. Definately an album to read all of the lyrics along with and get to understand the story... on that note I hope to see another concept album from DT at some point.

SeRoX

I think; thanks to this albums; DT got lots of fans more.

LudwigVan

It was my first DT album, and I couldn't quite digest it at first even though I knew it was something special.  I went out and bought I&W and Awake and actually got into them 1st before going back to experience SFAM again.

Yeah, DT's fan base definitely bigger got after the release of this album.

I KEED I KEED  :hat

RobertD

Probably my favorite DT album. It is in my opinion basically a rock opera.Reminds me alot of "Tommy"Also,I recently got "Metropolis 2000"
Freakin' lovin' it. :metal

TL

Easily one of the best albums I've ever heard. Overture 1928 is the song that introduced my to DT.

Yeah, it's the first DT song I really went crazy with. The drum intro and the guitar solos all along the song just totally caught me.

zmazar

I think the only song I can listen to from that album without listening to the entire thing is The Spirit Carries On.  Any other song, and I find myself backtracking to beginning and listening to the entire thing.

It's up there in my top 3, the other two being I&W and SDOIT.

rumborak

Together with 6DOIT, the peak of DT.

rumborak

emindead

The album that got me completely into DT and gave me the best musical experience of my life. DT's best album.

Zydar

One of their absolutely best albums, it's my 2nd favourite DT album after IaW.

tri.ad

One of my least favourite albums. But some songs are really stellar.

Phantasmatron

All that needs to be said in this thread is...

WOMP WOMP

I think I've made my point.

BlobVanDam

A great album, and definitely better as a whole than individually as tracks. I don't rank it *quite* as highly as other people (probably 4th favourite), but it's great. But I can understand those who rank it much lower, because individually there's not a lot on there that stands among my top songs, so in that way I can see how it seems weaker. But as a whole there's nothing on the album I don't enjoy, and it's a pretty good album to just put on and listen to whole.

Scrub206

its deffinatly up there in the album ranks. probly 3rd. nothing will every beat Octavarium.. no album by any other band comes even close. but i do love listening to SFAM all the way through. gives me the chills listening to it all.

Oh come on, opinions I know, but 8V is nowhere near SFAM in terms of brilliance.

Minus the title track and one other song (probably SS) it's one of their weakest albums to date IMO.

Hey that's my story!!

I never listen to SFAM as a whole though, half way through Beyond This Life I get blahish and stop it, then I put it back on starting Through Her Eyes all through to the end of the album.
