You should have, King!
Also have to admit that I totally blanked on contacting you :(
Show was sold out actually. In a 2,200 capacity venue! Nuno did some small speech at how blown away he was by that.

If they are still so good then why don't they get up off their asses and put out some new rockin' funkin' groovin' material?

Is Nuno still touring with Rhianna?

I've been meaning to pick the most recent Extreme release. How is it?

Good to hear they are playing again.

I know that Nuno has recently been touring with Vai, Malmsteen, Abasi, and Wylde.

Personally I wish they continued where III Sides left off. I always felt they fancied themselves a bit like a Queen successor (and Brian May of all people has said so himself), and I got the impression with Waiting for the Punchline they were desperately trying to stay afloat, but sacrificing their core in the process.
I would hope that one way or the other they got their finances in dry sheets by this point, and so maybe they could return to the "fuck it, we'll play whatever we feel like" attitude.

I'm probably in the minority but I really liked Waiting For The Punchline. The In-your-face guitar sound, the almost live feeling, the more stripped down approach were a change in direction but for me it worked well. And they kinda changed their sound with every record so it wasn't that surprising that they didn't record III Sides Part Two.

Don't get me wrong, Waiting is a damn good album. I just felt they had sacrificed their "fuck it" attitude too much, trying to appease to the new musical tides.

My favorite Extreme album.  "The Truth" is the best part.

I heard a podcast recently with Gary.  I thought he said they were working on new music.

Maybe many of you don't know, but the last Extreme's album is Saudades de Rock and it's an excellent album IMO!

I'm with you. I really like Waiting For The Punchline a lot. III Sides is my favorite overall but Waiting gets a lot of flack for the change in sound.

We're about 17 songs into it,” says Nuno. “We're just wrapping them up. We've got to do vocals, some guitar. Slowly but surely. We're going to release it early next year. Whether that's February or early spring, but definitely not past the spring. This thing is coming out, even if I've got to leak this fucking thing out. We've been recording mostly at my home studio. The guys have been coming out periodically.

I've filed Extreme under "I'll believe it when I see it".

Can't really get excited about this one. Suadades wasn't great but it worked as an OK launchpad for them to evolve further, except it has been such a long time that they're pretty much starting from scratch again.

The DVD sounds cool though, especially the doc.

I just picked up Saudades of Rock, and MAN! I was blown away.  Not III Sides Part II, but a solid Extreme record all around.   The first five or six songs just SLAY and Gary hasn't lost a step in his voice.

The title means "The Nostalgia of Rock" (roughly), and I don't know if anyone noticed, but just about every song has an homage or reference to something "classic".  Sometimes it's the riff (there are two songs that are basically Zeppelin riffed as run through the "Nuno Filter"), sometimes it's a vocal inflection (as usual, there is a lot of Queen in their sound) and sometimes it's a lyric or two.  But they are clear, and given how meticulous Nuno is with his music, I don't think any of it is accidental or unintentional.  I think it's all there on purpose, and frankly I LOVE that shit.

Can't wait for the new album, too.

Saudades wasn't the triumphant return that some (many?) hoped it would be, but it was a really solid record. Some great tunes, some that I didn't really connect with but a good enough effort that left me wanting more. And if there's one thing that Extreme can do it is to groove. They just have the toe-tippin' rhythm playing that so many bands, especially from the more metal genres simply lack. They should just release records on a more regular schedule.

And yeah, there are many references to their influences, from the music (not only the riffing but the drumming is very ledzeppeliny sometimes) to lyrics, to titles (Comfortably Dumb anyone?). And they've done it before (i.e. the little Hendrix riff in Rest In Peace). I love that shit too, when I get it. Otherwise I hate it, when people talk about it and I'm too dumb to recognize it  ;D

I think that Saudades has some of the best tunes that Extreme have ever written (Take Us Alive, Last Hour and Ghost come to mind), but there's a lot more songs on that album that I don't care for at all when comparing it with albums like Pornograffitti or III Sides - heck, even Waiting For the Punchline was damn consistant, though it lacked the major standouts aside from Midnight Express.

Either way, I'm excited for new Extreme music. They haven't released a bad album so far in my opinion.

I wouldn't call Take Us Alive, Last Hour or Ghost the best tunes, they are decent but not even close to the best on Saudades (that would be Star, Comfortably Dumb, Run, imo) but that's up to taste. And it shows how varied and versatile Extreme songs can be.

Interface is a Dramagods remake and the original version with Nuno singing is far superior IMO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieoGa1eM930

I remember really liking Comfortable Dumb, Ghost, Learn To Love, Take Us Alive, Star, and Last Hour. Looking at that tracklist again, I think that was pretty much it unfortunately. It starts out strong enough but has some major dips toward the end.

If you like the last Extreme album, I highly recommend the Dramagods album. I thought SDR sounded like an album of Dramagods leftovers. Similar tone, similar style of songs, but far superior to my ears. Almost every song is a winner and I prefer Nuno's singing to Gary's voice recently.

I always wanted to hear the Dramagods album but it was (and still is?) extremely hard to find. In Germany you could get it only as an import for ridiculously high prizes and it's not on spotify. Any tips where to obtain it legally?

You'd have to import. I think it's only in print in Japan. Even here in America it's hard to find.

See that's the problem for me; Nuno's voice is like... salt.  You need some for a complete meal, but too much is, well, too much.
