Jordan Rudess solo material
« on: January 04, 2010, 08:10:21 PM »
Anyone like his solo stuff? I just bought Rhythm of Time as well as The Road Home, it's pretty cool stuff-I know a lot of people on here aren't huge fans of Rudess' solos and such, but I enjoy them. What do you all think?

Just amazing.  DT should count their lucky stars that some of their fans are at this level of unconditional cult worship.

Rhythm of Time is great, and I also really like Listen. The 80s sounding production makes it sound a bit cheesy, but there are some great songs on there, like Fade Away, It's a Mystery and Feel the Magic.
But definitely a fan :tup

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I only have Rhythm of Time. It's a great album, Screaming Head is as of now my favorite. I like the way he uses the synths and all those keyboard sounds. MP was right in saying DT doesn't even scratch the surface of what this guy is capable of.

Screaming Head is definitely one of my favourites off RoT, probably only second to Ra. Insectsamongus is also great. You can hear so many different styles and sounds between those songs.

TRH is a fantastic album. It also got me more interested in classic prog like ELP and Yes.
I have to get my hands on RoT...
Surely one day they'll work out it would be simpler and far more legal just to suckle on each others' teats in a kind of wonderful 69 of eternal calcium goodness.

I think Feeding the Wheel is his best solo album.

Solo, I've only got Listen, Feeding The Wheel and Rhythm Of Time and I love those. I always get Jordan's stuff when I find it.

I wish he was allowed to do more in Dream Theater, but maybe then I would like his solo albums so much.

Rhythm of Time is excellent. I've just started listening to Feeding the Wheel too.
JR's solo work is probably my favourite DT member side project.

by this logic, Dream Theater is really Petrucci's backing band, at least since ToT  :o

im just saying, and i know he contributes plenty in the band, but ive heard the keyboard parts from the stems of BC&SL and he does fantastic stuff, but the mixing is just pushed too far back on the album. And even then, his potential is not reached for, again, since at least ToT (Octavarium was the exception, his keyboards flourish on that album)

Some of DT's best moments are JR playing the main melody with JP underneath, think the intros to These Walls and The Glass Prison
