Could anyone with knowledge of cameras give me some advice on a camera. I had mentioned to a friend that I was looking to get a good starter camera for travelling and whatnot, and they sent me this link. They aren't a big photography buff, so I wanted an opinion from someone who knows their stuff when it comes to cameras:

Would this be a good intro camera? I literally have little to no knowledge of them myself, other than 18 MP is more than my Samsung S7. From what I gather it is still more of a "point and shoot" camera, but being able to put other lenses on it is nice, so I won't be stuck reading manuals for weeks trying to figure out the intricacies of a more professional camera.
If this isn't a good camera, can you recommend another camera in a similar price range that would be a better starting point for a noob like me?
One advantage with this Canon is, you could change lenses, and this could be a huge advantage down the road for you. It is a decent camera, but you'd better learn about some photography basics before trying it out... sure, you could switch it to the fully auto mode or the "Program" mode, in which you have some controls over shutter speed or aperture or what not. Still, those things won't mean jack to you if you don't invest a little time in picking up the basics.
As for that kit lens, it is acceptably fast wide open; but at f/6.3 when zoomed in, it is quite slow unless you are shooting outdoor under bright sunlight. All in all, go for it if you really want a starter camera and if it is within your budget. Or, you could also check out other point-and-shoot ones by Sony (RX100 series) or Ricoh (GR series), and see if they work out better for you. Quality-wise they all make pretty good cameras, and they all product better than decent images.
