:lol

Nightwish is a good band, but I'll tell you who REALLY loves them: Emma, my 9-year old sister. The first and only rock/metal band I've been able to get her into...she prefers Anette to Tarja (though I'm the opposite, surprise suprise ) and, even though she will NOT admit it, has a big fat crush on Marco.

I heard an interesting POV yesterday about Anette being in the band. Apparently, some finnish people still can't handle the fact that there's a swede in Nightwish. My cousin across the pond in Finland is guilty of this, and she says that if you're not finnish you wouldn't understand. Anybody else know what she's talking about?

Cause I don't. And I'm half finnish.
The thing is, there's a friendly kind of rivalry between Finland and Sweden - like 2 neighbors or siblings. Just like Norwegians and Danes, Finns always love to beat Swedes at sports and other competitions. However, some people go even so far that they say they hate Swedes. Many Finns are bitter about the fact that we have to learn Swedish in school due to it being another national language, (Finland was originally part of Sweden for over 600 years) although the Swedish-speaking people are a minority. There's also a stereotype about Finland-Swedes being wealthy and arrogant but that's another story. If you type "why do Finns hate Swedes" on Google, you'll find more info about these things. I personally don't have anything against Swedes, although studying Swedish is quite boring.

I've never heard complaints about Anette being Swedish, I've got the impression most Finnish Anette-dislikers just think she's an amateur pop singer, just like Tarja-fanboys from other countries think.

Sorry for the long off-topic at the start, I just had to explain the Finland-Sweden rivalry. BTW, it's the Finnish independence day! :D On the topic of NW itself - I started listening to them when DPP was released but I overplayed that album and got bored of it. I have all their previous albums but rarely listen to them nowadays. However, Nightwish was one of the first heavier bands I listened to and they were a kind of "gateway" band to metal for me. I'm pretty sure there are many other Finns who have had the same situation: it's easy to start with more mainstream metal like NW and then find heavier and more complex bands after that. I've heard Storytime (it's a hit here) but I haven't got Imaginaerum yet. In 4 years I have discovered so many new bands that I haven't been that anxious about hearing new stuff but I'll probably give it a chance.

Thanks! :) I could see why some could be annoyed by the fact that Anette is Swedish, I just haven't heard about it.

One thing I don't understand about the Anette-hate is that people complain about her not being an opera singer: Tarja started singing in a less operatic way on Century Child as Tuomas didn't really want to have Oceanborn/Wishmaster style vocals anymore (source: the official NW book) so it was natural for them to get a singer who doesn't sing opera at all. Besides, I'm sure a 2nd-rate Tarja would've divided opinions even more strongly.

Wow.  This album is amazing.   :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

I loved DPP but this totally surpasses it.  Anette is at home and the band sounds great.  I used to be bitter about Tarja but those days are long gone now!  Can't wait to see them on this tour.

I'm on my second or third listen. I like it, I'm just not in love with it at the moment. That can change. However, Ghost River is fucking awesome.

I've had this for a while...still haven't given it a spin. I wonder if I'll enjoy the instrumental version of the album better. Anyone listened to it like that yet?

Totally not into that song, although I listened to it today and Annette is killer on it and I really like when Marco is very quietly singing in the background, but the song just does nothing for me.

lol I'm not knockin' you, to each their own. Slow, Love, Slow is probably my favorite off the album. It's so calm and beautiful. Anette sounds amazing on it.

This might seem like a dumb question, but is the movie going to be in English? Also, where will it be released?

Yeah it'll be in English and I don't think it'll be in theaters in America, might be straight to dvd. In Finland, yeah, every theater I imagine lol

I'm asuming he hated it that much.

With that being said. I've played this album 1-3 times a day for the last week.

Just didn't know Dead or Alive got any exposure after the initial one-hit-wonder parade upon it's release.

Damn, you didn't look 27.  Apologies if you're offended; you're welcome if you're not.

Ok, back on track... re-listening again.  I think spider-man is way off.  This is good, and my initial take is that it's better than DPP.  The Grooveshark quality is pretty bad, so when I do finally get CD, I'm sure it'll be that much better.

Imaginaerum is hardly comparable to Dark Passion Play. It is like taking what was good with DPP and mixing it up with what was good with Once, along with some Danny Elfman-esque orchestrals and folk music, in a well-composed manner.

I think it's definitely one of the best albums of 2011 :)
