I have been completely underwhelmed by the new album. Hopefully seeing songs from it live in two days from the floor at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington DC will give me a better perspective...

You've been saying that, but you haven't elaborated. Interested in your take. Personally, I think the new album is really good. Maintains what AiC has been and shows a glimmer of something new as well. Very emotional album as well.
A lot of people painted it as a brilliant comeback by the band and one of the best albums of 2009. I have listened to it a handful of times (and am listening to it right now in prep for the show tonight) and once the CD is finished, the songs disappear from my mind. Nothing sticks with me. The music just kind of plods along. Nothing really jumps out as a strong track with catchy riffs and hooks. It is ok when I am listening, but completely forgetable once I move on to something else. I appreciate the emotional lyrics, but nothing really grabs me on this one...

Really?  The hooks in Check My Brain and Your Decision are pretty memorable to me.  Those are two great singles off the album.

Good shit. I would pay a lot of money to hear them play Rotten Apple though.

Same here. I've always been bummed that Rotten Apple seems so forgotten in the annals of AIC fandom. I've always likened it to Nutshell. They are the first two tracks off Jar of Flies, both are named after food , both have a somber mood and finally both are excellently written.

The fact that they do not play Black Gives Way to Blue makes me a sad, sad, sad panda :sadpanda:

Here's to the unlikely hope that they play it next Saturday or when I see them with STP in May.

Yeah I dunno what's up with that. Layne sounds absolutely tortured singing both of those songs. Easily the best 1-2 punch out of all their songs and for that reason probably my top two songs. The order changes though.

By the way, they do slightly change the setlist from night-to-night.

Take another look. "Got Me Wrong", "Junkhead", "Grind", and "Last Of My Kind", among others, are switched in and out.

If you only skim them, why would you say they don't change them?

Was anyone at the MGM show last night? I saw someone wearing the same Dream Theater tour shirt that I was wearing and was thinking that he could maybe be from here. I was wearing the group photo tour shirt with a Metallica ...And Justice For All hoodie.

Because I was assuming that if they never change the songs that I am always looking for, they don't change their set in general. I was wrong.

I see that no one in this thread has mentioned Sap.  Great EP that every AIC fan needs to listen to.
