Cool stuff.

This.  It's never occurred to me that James writing lyrics has had anything to do with him wanting to or not.  I always just assumed it was all done before he came in.  I'd expect the same with John.

I've never heard any of The Jelly Jam before, but this sounds like a very good combination of talents.  Maybe I'll try and pick up the first album sometime soon.

Yay! More DT side-projects! Petrucci has said he'd like to do another solo album and has some lines and compositions he could use for it, but nothing has been programmed yet. JLB says he's planning to do a solo album, which I'm eagerly waiting for along with JP's. MP is on Transatlantic and has been doing some cover gigs with HAIL! (Phil Demmel, Andreas Kisser, "Ripper" Owens, David Ellefson & Him), and JR has already released a solo single with his daughter destined to charity, "For the Moment". Everyone's doing side-projects!!! I really hope that JMX's JellyJam project album is good, though I haven't heard anything from them yet.

I thought the Jelly Jam was alright, but I'd prefer to see a JM solo project.  It didn't seem like he really contributed very much to Platypus and Jelly Jam.  The guy seems to be pretty creative, and he's damn sure got some talent playing.  I'd like to see him recruit some guys for a project that actually features him doing his own thing.

Actually, I just now discovered that there's a Jelly Jam II album.  Maybe he actually breaks out a little on it.  I'll have to check it out.

I hope this will be an album where JM is really "into it" again, as sadly it's been a while.

I don't know, there's always the risk that the first half would be nothing but scales. Though at least we'd probably get a bass solo in a song where he does a bass solo.  :P

But yeah, any outlet for JMX to unleash his creativity would be awesome.

Haven't heard one note of The Jelly Jam, but recently I've started to really enjoy (and look forward to) those moments in DT songs when JM gets to do something cool, so I might give them a chance in the future.

I just pulled the two of them off the shelf and listened to them yesterday.

A tour would be really cool at some point.

Which two?  You know there are three albums, right?

Which Jelly Jam album is the best?  I have the first two and even though I love Ty Tabor, they were just ok for me.  On the other hand, Jughead was a fun album that I still break out today.

I do not have the third either.  I didn't listen to the first one very much.  It didn't really grab me.  I listened to the second one much more (although still not much in the grand scheme of things) and felt it had much more memorable songs.

Honestly, I don't find them much different than a lot of the King's X material that Ty took the lead on.  Not that that's a bad thing--I'm just saying it isn't overly "unique" as a side project.

I have the first two. The debut is a really strong record that I still listen to on a regular basis, the second one was okay but nothing really grabbed me and it sounded too much like Ty's solo work and King's X.

The third and fourth ones aren't really promoted on a big level, are they?

Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

Mine has to be Under The Tree, although I only have the first album. Damn, I've always meant to buy the second one but never got around to it. I didn't even know there was a third album, unless I did but forgot about it.

It hasn't been mentioned a tour is on the works! How cool is that? And how weird will it be seeing Myung playing on stage with other project that isn't Dream Theater?

No clue whatsoever (or I forgot) Thanks!  Only got the first two.

You've just made my day.   Looks like I get to hear new Jelly Jam (for me) before I thought I would.

How awesome is that?

:lol  For some reason, I never got the third album.  It wasn't a conscious decision.  I just sort of...forgot and then never mustered up the motivation to track it down the couple of times I was reminded.
