Ayreon/Arjen Lucassen Thread (Star Three on the way)
« on: April 27, 2009, 10:02:40 AM »
Always room for a thread for this talented guy.

Also, concerning Guilt Machine (his newest project) guess who's going to be on the 8 minute instrumental bonus track?  ;D

My absolute singer favorite composer. Ayreon, Star One, and Stream of Passion are all excellent. I adore pretty much every Ayreon album except the Migrator I & II, and even those are good.

The Count of Tuscany?

Oh no, what have I done?!

I'm gonna guess either Petrucci or Michael Romeo.

I love me some Ayreon.

Oh, and of course I'm excited for his new project, I even sent in a voice clip that I'm hoping they use. :D

Wrong, the answer is: ME!!!

Also, it sort of saddens me that Arjen doesn't feel like making an Ayreon album at the moment. He goes and does other stuff, returning to Ayreon albums when he feels like it.

Hopefully when he returns to Ayreon, he'll get Ripper, Barlow (wouldn't that be something), More Hansi, Some Schaffer, Petrucci, Kevin Murr, More Sharon Den Adel, Jorn "Chimes in at last chorus" Lande, and other of MY favorite musical talents that he's unaware of.

Please, no Ripper or Barlow in Ayreon. Also, no Schaffer. Basically, Iced Earth needs to stay away from Ayreon. :lol

I have a friend who has been actually been talking sort of as a messenger between Arjen and his favorite vocalist, Claudio Sanchez.

Come on, how awesome and hilarious would it be to have those three featured all on one song? It would be like The Clouding remix I have where the innocent emotional  Barlow lost his memory and doesn't know what to do, and then the evil Setian Ripper laughs and tells of how the human race is now enslaved by the setains. And then to make it even more awesome, a totally random Sharon comes in with her beautiful angelic voice.

All of the singers he's had have all been excellent. Why ruin it with a guy that sounds like he just sucked in helium?

First thing I thought of, especially since both are pretty much "finished" at this point.

Actually I think Barlow would be AWESOME in the right role. Plus, Arjen is an amazing vocal director and really does get fantastic performances out of his singers. On all the Ayreon albums I've felt that the performances from most of the singers have been amongst their best.

Really? I got introduced to Ayroen by those two (because of Russell Allen's participation). The Dream Sequencer is some of his best stuff, imo. Very laid back, 2084, My House on Mars etc are fantastic. I can't say I'm a big fan of his earlier stuff, though. Some songs on ITEC are good but most of it is not for me, same for the previous albums.
Ayroen should make an album where the only singer is Anneke. She's always so amazing on his rocords (she is always amazing).

Also, Live on Earth and Live in the Real World are great live releases with tons of often altered (vocally or arrangement wise) Ayreon songs that can often be even better than studio.

Biggest case of this is Stream of Passion doing Computer Eyes.

When you guys listen to the 8 minute instrumental bonus track on the Guilt Machine album, listen for, "...I feel like I'm getting what I deserve..."

Because, gentlemen, that will be MY voice saying that line.

I've recently started listening to Ayreon (and specifically The Human Equation) and I love it. Days 7 and 11 are favourites so far, but probably more when I've listened enough.

Any Ayreon fans have any thoughts on the 3CD box set 'Timeline?' I don't normally like to buy box sets/compilations, especially for bands I am not familiar with, but this one looks pretty solid.

I gained a newfound love for Day Whatever: Loser

That song rules, and is possibly the only time I've enjoyed something Devin Townsend has been in.

Considering I have 95% of what's on it, I didn't buy it, but it certainly looks like a fantastic, well priced set for someone just getting into them.

I see that ex- PT guy Chris Maitland is doing the drums for Guilt Machine, which intrigues me.  I think he's an excellent drummer.  His presence could make for a slight shift in Ayreon's overall sound.

Best lyric ever.

If by best, you mean worst, then I agree with you.  The lyrics in that song make the ones on the last two DT albums look like they were written by Shakespeare. :lol

Anyway, after being into Ayreon pretty good for a while, I am majorly off of them now.  Their stuff is all too samey to me.  But I still like Into the Electric Castle quite a bit, and most of The Dream Sequencer is good.  On the other hand, The Human Equation is the most overrated record ever in prog circles.

I actually like the lyric.  It works to add a bit of humor and variety to the music.  I think it was pretty ballsy and adventuresome to put out a lyric that is so outlandish, especially for a prog metal album.

Ayreon is awesome regardless of lyrics (and those are pretty cool too)

I just put the Guilt Machine release on my calendar. How could I not buy an album that I'm on?  :hat
