Average album is average.

Poor post is poor. :p

But yeah, as Jingle already knows, Victims was album of the year quality, and this new track put New Real on pace to possibly reach that same height.

After a year and a half or so (whenever VotMA came out), I'm listening to it again and liking it a lot more this time around.

Like sipping from a very nice bottle of wine, the second listen was much better than the first.

Only listened to the first disc so far, and I have mixed feelings. The songs are pretty good, mainly because of the hooks (most of which were present in the trailer video), but the lyrics are absolutely horrendous. It's a damn shame, because some of the subjects have a lot of potential (E-Police, Pink Beatles, and Parental Procreation Permit) but they're quickly nullified by the lyrics.

That said, that was only my first listen, so we'll see how it grows on me.

I have no idea why people expect something else from his lyrics, especially on this album. Just kick back, enjoy the music and great melodies and have fun.

I found The Human Equation purely through JLB and MA being involved in it and I was blown away. Some awesome work there both vocally and instrumentally, that Devon Graves really impressed me. One of the best albums I've heard. Great mixes of heavy, prog, and folk! Gunna have to check a few other albums out by Ayreon/Arjen. Any recommendations, I was thinking 01011001.

I tend to agree. After all, I'm probably one of the only people in the world who isn't bothered by some of the lyrics on 01011001, but these are just...fuck.

Probably not the best starting place if you liked "The Human Equation"

I'd probably go with "Into The Electric Castle"

I find 01011001 to be much closer to THE than any of his other works. A little less grandiose at first listen but it's amazing as well.

The Dream Sequencer/Flight of the Migrator is a great place to start overall, I think. First one is a soft, mellow album, the other is prog/power metal of extremely good quality.

Mason likes to fail hard on occasion.

On this topic, I side with Nick.  That's a fail beyond fail, professor.  VOTMA continues to get mad props and lots of spins here.  Couple of so-so tracks, but the rest of it more than compensates.  My last.fm most played song list is almost exclusively VOTMA - that pretty much sums it up for me.

I'll have to join you two!!!

Also loved that new track!!! Absolutely brilliant!!!!

Just got the mediabook edition! Had to import it but yet again I did get it almost two weeks earlier than the US release date.
The Mediabook is beautiful and I got to say the second disc with the bonus tracks and "covers" is actually really good. Loving the first disc and obviously my favorite track is "Lost in the New Real." Got to check out the CD Rom sections now.

I've had if for a couple days now and I think it's really good. Much more lighthearted, humorous and with great melodies. Also love the coverversions, especially Battle of Evermore, welcome to the machine and I'm the slime. The 'other' tracks on disc two are pretty good too, especially like The Space Hotel.

Nice.

By the way, Arjen's new solo album is pretty damn fantastic. I don't care how cheesy some of it is, it tells a cool story and there are just a lot of great moments in it.

I just bought it today.  I've listened to it once, but I'm at work, so I can't really focus on it.  What I've heard so far sounded pretty cool though.

Just listened through the first disc of the album for the first time and I really enjoyed it.  Great sounds and melodies, and I can't wait to read the lyrics along with the cd, good stuff.

Yeah, the lyrics are incredible.
Hm. The song SUBJECTS are incredible (aside from Where Pigs Fly), but the lyrics are pretty crummy for the most part.

I was only referring to Where Pigs Fly.  I can see why people would find them cringeworthy, but I enjoy them.

Lyrics and narration are pretty much exactly what I'd expect from Arjen, and I love it.
