Nice to see some Mylo Xyloto love on people's Coldplay's lists—I think that album is criminally underrated. I love Charlie Brown and Don't Let It Break Your Heart. Both really great songs. And while X&Y is not anywhere close to my favorite Coldplay album, Swallowed In the Sea is a great song.

A Head Full of Dreams was a disappointment to me, honestly. It's not a bad album, but it's a bit bland. For a band that in my opinion had put out three stellar albums in a row from VLV to GS, it was disappointing to get one that was just okay. Most of the songs are good, but they don't really make a strong impression for the most part. Up&Up is a pretty good closer, so that was good. I'd just say the album is a 6/10 which is disappointing when the preceding three all would be in the 8-10/10 range.

@Sebastian: If you haven't already, check out Transatlanticism and Plans—though I liked Kintsugi, I would say that those two are noticeably better albums, each with a handful of genuinely great songs and a ton of good ones.
OK, will do! I'm curious about the band - it's the type of pop music I liked as a teenager listening to The Cure and The Smiths, but made by a contemporary band. The only other thing I know about them is that John Myung praised "I Will Possess Your Heart" in a 2011 interview.

I Will Possess Your Heart is a good song (and I'm not surprised to hear that JMX singled it out, because it has a very good bassline), but as Kev noted, the album it's on (Narrow Stairs) is not among their best. I wouldn't say it's a bad album, but it's among their weakest ones.

I would agree with that; Transatlanticism and Plans are their best two albums.  Still, The Photo Album is pretty damn great, too, and I have much love for Kintsugi and Codes and Keys. Narrow Stairs was somewhat of a bump in the road, even if it does have some really good tunes on there.

I like Codes and Keys a lot. I think Kintsugi is good, but I would not rank it as high as it seems like you would. For me, the top three are Transatlanticism, Plans and Codes and Keys, then a small step down to The Photo Album, then a step down to Kintsugi and a small step down to Narrow Stairs. I have We Have the Facts... but I haven't listened to it enough to rank it, and I don't have the debut.

Narrow Stairs is one of those albums where I'll listen to it one time and think it's wonderful, and then listen to it again a couple of weeks later and think it's a dud. Ultimately, I think it's an album with a bunch of good songs that have a peculiar emotional tone to them and totally fail to make an impression if I'm not prepared to receive that emotion. Even a definitely good song like I Will Possess Your Heart just doesn't appeal to me if I'm not in a Narrow Stairs state of mind. To a certain extent this may be true for me with Kintsugi as well.

The exception is Grapevine Fires. Grapevine Fires is a beautiful song that contains a ton of my favorite musical things, and I will listen to it any day.
And if spirit's a sign,
Then it's only a matter of time

After reading everything all of you have said about DCFC, I have a feeling I might fall in love with them if I listen to another album. I think the only other one available around here is Codes & Keys; if next month I have some money to spare, I think I'm gonna get it. Like I said earlier, I liked Kintsugi a lot (one of my favourites from 2015), but I admit it has some weak tracks - I always skip tracks 2, 5 and 6. Still, the other songs are just so gorgeous - "No Room In Frame", "Everything's A Ceiling", "Ingenue", "Good Help"...

Following.

I may try to post a list later, but I have trouble just picking my ten favorite favorite bands, not to mention selecting my favorite song from each of them.
Sincerely,
Jaffa

No Room in Frame is one of my favorite Death Cab songs. :tup I can't imagine skipping Black Sun, though!

If you like Kintsugi, particularly those songs, I have to imagine you'll like Codes and Keys. They have a similar, but not identical, tone about them.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts after you've listened to it! We have a Death Cab For Cutie thread here, though it isn't always very active. :)

Like so many others, I couldn't narrow it down to just ten bands or artists, so I found a unique way to "cheat" in that I decided to split my list into two posts of ten each.

So here's Part 1:

1) AC/DC-T.N.T / Back in Black / Thunderstruck

2) Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath / Heaven and Hell / The Mob Rules

3) Blue Oyster Cult-Godzilla / Astronomy / Veteran of the Psychic Wars (ETL Version)

4) Deep Purple-Space Truckin' / Burn / Perfect Strangers

5) Dio- Rainbow in the Dark / The Last in Line / Strange Highways

6) Emerson Lake & Palmer-Knife Edge / From the Beginning / Fanfare for the Common Man

7) Flying Colors-Infinite Fire / Mask Machine / One Love Forever

8) Genesis-In the Cage / Squonk / Domino

9) Iron Maiden-Flight of Icarus / Infinite Dreams / Age of Innocence

10) Judas Priest-Breaking the Law / Rock Hard Ride Free / One Shot at Glory
I can't stop the world from turning around, or the pull of the moon on the tide, but I don't believe that we're in this alone, I believe we're along for the ride...

4) (The) Alan Parsons (Project)-I Wouldn't Want to be Like You / Can't Take it With You / You're Gonna Get Your Fingers Burned

Pull Me Under is still one of my favorite songs by DT hands down. I don't even listen to them much any more, but I'll never get sick of that song. I guess it's not a cool DT song to name as your favorite?

In alphabetical order (not 1 to 10)
Beatles:  A Day in the Life
Bring Me the Horizon:  Can You Feel My Heart
Cardigans:  Paralyzed
Curtis Mayfield:  Pusherman
Cynic:  Adam's Murmur / The Space for This
Dream Theater:  Voices / Scarred / Learning to Live / Eve
Genesis:  Dance on a Volcano
George Lynch:  When Darkness Calls / Mr. Scary
OSI / Chroma Key:  Bigger Wave / Colorblind
Pain Of Salvation:  Spitfall

So that was incredibly hard.  I love way too many bands and way too many songs.  And some new bands were eliminated simply because I can't guarantee their longevity at this time.  Some great bands had extremely short careers or just 1 or 2 stellar songs and a pile of crap after that.

Bring Me the Horizon:  Can You Feel My Heart

I love seeing BMTH here. I really like this band.

They have a split personality (or just revised).  It is almost like Metallica.  Some swear the old stuff is great and the new stuff is commercial sell out stuff.  Personally, I love every song on their latest album.  I love the combination of their aggressive past with the newer melodic/harmonic synth embellished songs.  I don't even know what you call that genre so I can find similar bands.

"New Millenium" is also one of my favourites. The same with Genesis' "Domino".

Megadeth - Wonderlust

Great song. I'd still probably say risk is their worst album just because I can't stand breadline or crush em, but wanderlust, prince of darkness, seven, the doctor is calling, insomnia, all great songs.

This will be pretty hard since I've burn out on much of the music that I used to like and I haven't been finding new bands, so I'm in a pretty sparse period... let's see if I even have 10 bands left:

the dear hunter - king of swords
thrice - words in the water
dredg - gathering pebbles
steven wilson - no part of me
porcupine tree - dark matter
agalloch - limbs
godspeed you! black emperor - BBF3
the mars volta - cicatriz ESP
bon iver - perth
oceansize - catalyst

REAL quick reply with little to no thinking (aka, these are probably wrong):

Dream Theater: The Count of Tuscany
Metallica: Battery for classic, Fixxxer for Load-era
"Weird Al" Yankovic: The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
Green Day: When It's Time (for sentimental reasons)
311: probably Use of Time
Neal Morse: Absolute Beginner or Supernatural
Genesis: No Son of Mine or Domino or The Lamia
The Offspring: Dirty Magic
SR-71: Alive
Emerson Lake and Palmer: Tarkus (but Lucky Man is also up there)
I don't want MP playing with DT unless they were making a drummer change. If they let MM go and bring back MP, then fine, but no guest appearance please.

Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons (Tomorrow it could be Metropolis or Learning to Live. My favorite from them is perpetually changing.)
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Rush - Jacob's Ladder (It's hard to pick a favorite Rush song. There are so many that come to mind.)
Marillion - Season's End. (Another band that has numerous songs that I could pick as their best.)
Anathema - Untouchable
Neal Morse/Spock's Beard - The Light
Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways
Yes - Close to the Edge
King Crimson - Lark's Tongue In Aspic
The Flower Kings - Last Minute On Earth (This changes often as well. They have too many brilliant songs to always choose one favorite.)

I don't necessarily have 10 favorite bands (plus I listen to a lot of solo artists), nor do I have one specific song I like the most from each band. I'll still try to pick one of my favorite songs from 10 of my favorite bands:

Myrath - Endure The Silence
Dream Theater - Bridges In The Sky
Jamiroquai - She's A Fast Persuader
Dirty Loops - Take On The World
Earth, Wind & Fire - In The Stone
Parliament - Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)
Pleasure - Can't Turn You Loose
Tower Of Power - Rock Baby
Sly & The Family Stone - Can't Strain My Brain
Toto - Falling In Between

Dude!!  I LOVE that song so much and every time I bring it up here I seem to get crickets.  I think it gets lost next to the countless "epics" he's done, but that song is everything I love about Neal Morse, and there is a lot to love.
