I wish Mark would just shut up.

I mean, I love growls, just not his. Either get a decent growler, or just have Simone song everything. Can't really have too much Simone.

Just watching the mking of videos on youtube and getting quite excited for this. Just hoping the grunter doesn't ruin it.

I gave The Essence of Silence a few spins and I like what I've heard, it didn't blow my mind, but it's good stuff. Imho Mark has never been a great grunter nor guitarist, but the guy can compose some great orchestration, and what has always been a hook for me are those background choirs, so as long as there is a choir in all the album tracks I'll be drooling like a St. Bernard.   ;D

I would expect that or at least most tracks.

The Quantum Enigma preview!  :metal

Not gonna lie, it's sounds pretty good! Remains me of "Design Your Universe" which that album was epic. Can't wait for May to be here already

Samples sound great. Definitely one of my most anticipated albums of the year.

Nobody else has bought the new album yet? I have been listening to it for a few days and I like it very much. Close to DYU quality. For some reason surprisingly little growling, so for the first time when listening to Epica I started to think there should be more of growls. Luckily we have MaYaN to satisfy that wish.

Oh, is it out?  I hadn't been paying attention.  (casual fan)  I may pick it up later if I have a chance.

Ive wanted to get this, just been super busy and havent had a chance.  The single is good though and if there is less growling than that sounds even more appealing.

I've had it since its release date.  It's not bad.  For some reason, Epica albums are all growers for me even though I pretty much no what to expect.  The Essence of Silence is the track that sticks out in my mind as the early favorite, I wish that would have made it as an acoustic track on the bonus disc.

I like it. I'm no huge fan of the band. I'd rather stare at Simone than listen to the music but its a good album. Not too growly thank god (pun intended )

I don't find it particularly memorable after listening but while its playing its good.

I like it mostly. The accoustic versions are stellar, though.... ???

Nice, thanks for doing the interview and sharing.  I still need to get the new album, need to remember to do it this weekend before I go on another 3 week journey around the world.

Just got this last night and listened through once.  Nothing really stands out at this stage.  In fact, the album feels rather weak overall.  But my perspective may very well change after a few more listens.

I got this last week and being that I am in the Netherlands now, ive been listening to lots of Epica.  I actually really really like the new album.

I guess I am the opposite of Bosk, the album really hit me after the first listen.  I liked it immediately.  The music seems to be much better and less growling = a happier me, although the songs with the growls dont seem to bother me like they used to.  Not sure if the growling is just better used or if Ive just gotten so used to it that it doesnt take many listens to enjoy it.

Am I the only one on this board who loves this album? Also, the acoustic stuff is amazing. On youtube, they have a 3 song acoustic set that is very enjoyable to my ears (well and eyes too)

Absolutely not. I think it's awesome, possibly their best. Certainly one of the best albums of the year at any rate.

Oeh, only found out about this thread now! Huge Epica fan here :)

I've been to their anniversary show (Retrospect), that was so incredibly good with the 70 people strong choir and orchestra. If you're curious, check out the Retrospect DVD!

I've noticed Simone getting a lot better over the years and she's really an example to me, since I'm singing as well. Besides, I think Mark still writes the most creative and beautiful music after all these years, which speaks of real talent.

I have it as well.  Love it.  But, again, the new album is leaving me a bit cold.  Hard to explain why, beyond the fact that it just feels like it lacks conviction and power.

Cheers matey!

I like the album more than the previous ones probably because of the heavier and djenty sound. But my Epica love can only get to some extend. I don't revisit it that often.

My favourite from TQE is probably Canvas of Life, but I just love ballads, so it's not unexpected at all.

Well tonight at work I am going to work my way through their discography. I am starting with The Phantom Agony. Cry For The Moon is one of my favorite Epica songs.
