There is never too much new music!  :lol

Check out Riverside, it's heavier than LS, but more complex and poignant as well. You are likely to like  :tup

My bank account disagrees!  :P

But I do plan to check them out someday. Maybe when the new album comes out I'll see if I can pick it up with used copies of the others.

I want to listen to it first. If it's great as I think it will be, than I will have both SONGS and ADHD sent and my Riverside discography complete!

So I'm sitting here with the new album on Grey vinyl which I just got from the mail. I regret not ordering the CD through InsideOut as well, I ordered it from another website together with an order my dad made (so he paid for the CD), so I won't get the CD until next week.

It feels weird getting something on vinyl before it has even leaked, that doesn't happen normally. I will probably listen soon, guess I will have to scrobble it later when I have it on my computer as well. :D

Just heard the new album. It's phenomenal, might be their best work yet imho.

I'm in the middle of Escalator Shrine now. It's amazing so far. I need a couple more listens, of course, but I already feel SONGS is up there with their best, really up there.

I think it's safe to say, with their fifth album, Riverside are the best band in prog today.

This, but I hope for the new DT album to make my mind change. All of this studio wise, of course. :tup

I would put Haken over them for sure as well as some non metal prog bands that are out there. These guys are good but saying they're the best is a little too much if you ask me

This.

Oh and btw. This album is the best album since SLS. Just saying. It's outstanding.

They are great, and while I have not listened to a Riverside song better than Visions or Celestial Elixir, those two albums are not as good as SLS or OOM. By a slight margin, but it's definitely like this for me.

If it's better than SLS I will be very (pleasantly) surprised. Does it feel like a new direction or is it quite similar to any of the previous albums?

I'll admit I enjoyed the second Haken album more, but with some of the songs it felt like they could have been 4-5 different songs, but apparently I was still listening to the same song.  :P

Haken's one of the better Dream Theater knock-off bands out there but Riverside is a much better band imo.

Riverside is a band I have yet to get into. I did happen to see them live many years ago and vaguely remember it, but since I had no idea who they were and didn't follow up on them, nothing has stuck. I'm considering blind purchasing their whole catalog since it's still modest in size, but I'm still a bit hesitant if I'll like them that much.

How best can they be described?

They're sort of like Anathema and Porcupine Tree, but also a bit heavier at times...but spacey/atmospheric as well.

If you like the two bands I listed above, then definitely get in to these guys!

Thanks, I do enjoy both those groups and "a bit heavier at times" sounds right up my alley since the other mentioned groups can at times be a bit too mellow.

Best described as heard by your ears, do a youtube search I'm sure you'll find what your looking for.

Hey Ortho, if it makes any difference, I just got into Riverside this year and absolutely love them.  ADHD was in my top 50.

Yeah, I remember asking you about it in your Top 50 thread. I don't know why but I'm just gunshy on this group for some reason, despite the fact I'm buying 8-10 albums a month right now.

New album is incredible! I've always liked all of their albums but there was always something that stood in the way of being absolutely 'high quality'. They've never made an album that's as listenable as this one IMO. They cut back on a lot of things but the things you get in return are amazing. It grooves more (drummer really improved in feel and the riffs are more to the point), the guitar sounds are a bit cooler, less sharp. Vocal melodies are great, more original ideas etc. I don't know if you could ever say this about a Riverside album, but it almost has a commercial appeal to it.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I'm liking the new record. I think it's a grower so I have to listen to it a couple more times.
