Anvil! The Story of Anvil on TV 10/3
« on: October 02, 2009, 08:46:57 PM »
On VH1 classic Saturday night at 10 pm.  It's a great documentary about a Canadian thrash metal band that keeps pushing on because of a love of music.  I saw it at the theater, and really enjoyed it, and since they are a metal band, you shouldn't have a hard time getting into it.  I'm going to DVR it with the intention of keeping it until I get the DVD.  VH1 classic is channel 337 for those of you with DirecTV.

wow.  this was a great movie.  i was touched.  i actually started watching it at like 1:30 am for a few minutes and i ended up staying awake until 3:30 a.m. to watch the whole thing.  im glad they are receiving recognition now.  they are opening for AC/DC and playing on Conan O'Brien on Tuesday.  Good for them!

I knew this was an awesome movie, and figured of all the forums I posted it at (a football coaching one and a hot pepper one being the others), this movie/thread got the least amount of interest (lack of views) here.

I was shocked VH1 was showing it unedited (at least it seemed unedited).  Caught about 1/2 hr of it.  I've added it to my Netflix queue

I watched about 3/4 of it. I fell asleep during the last part (watched it at night). I liked the movie. Don't really dig the band (they didn't succeed, because frankly, they suck, lol). Eventually I'll pick up the film and finish watching it, or catch it again on VH-1.

I agree they aren't the greatest band...but damn I wish I was as passionate about anything as those guys are to their music.

Just watched it after reading this thread.

It's really one of the most moving films I have ever seen. I was a bit surprised seeing guys like Lars Ulrich and Slash talk about Anvil with so much respect. I mean, I never even heard of them. I can only say I'm really glad for those guys that things are picking up for them. They really did it on their own, and every other band would have given up a hundred times already.

they just announced a 30 city tour for the US so the coverage from the film is obviously helping them

Samsara,  Anvil was a staple of the Thrash scene with their first 3 albums the problem I saw with them was they didn't take themselves very seriously at least from a lyrical sense as well as some of Lips's stage antics, but they wrote some incredible thrash riffs and Rob was a incredibly talented drummer for his time. By the time they realized that their content was not being taken seriously they had already missed the boat.
