Interesting to hear that. I made multiple runs through their discography and I have no memory of that song. Will make up for that right away.

I would say Bigger Wave is my favourite OSI track. But great songs like Go or Radiologue are right behind it!

I would have a hard time deciding one favorite song... this is my top 10, roughly in order

Blood
Memory Daydreams Lapses
Radiologue
Wind Won't Howl
Head
Terminal
Bigger Wave
Simple Life
Stockholm
Standby (Looks Like Rain)

I guess Blood > OSI > Free > FMT based on this top 10

For those who haven't heard it, here's Fates Warning's demo of Shutdown from the Disconnected reissue (titled It's Over): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FixmyR1PfMk It's interesting to hear Ray's vocals, but I personally prefer the final version.

Never heard this!  Thanks for sharing.  Listening now. :)

Ah, Ray's voice.  It always hits the spot.  I like it.

Wonder how would it have sounded if it was properly included in Disconnected. Has the same vibe from that album.

Funny thing is that I have this reissue and never bother to listen to the demos...LOL. Never thought it was the Shutdown demo from OSI

Wow, I never knew this existed. It makes perfect sense, it definitely sounds like something from that would come from Disconnected (and sounds a little out of place on OSI, honestly). Really cool to hear this version with Ray.

Random post, but I freaking love "Dirt From A Holy Place". Just that slow build-up to the sinister second half. Mmm-mmm.

I'll second that with a big 'ole broner. Totally reminds me of old-school Castlevania, which is never ever a bad thing and it jumps out at me every time. It's so much of the same feeling to me; dreary yet mysterious, a bit ominous...I always picture a night scene in a misty old castle, or an old ancient tomb. I suppose that part is hinted at in the title a bit, but it really shines through in the music. Definitely one of my favorite tracks from the guys.

The atmosphere in Dirt From A Holy Place is incredible. Also, it's 3 years guy. If they keep up with the cycle, there should be new one next year if not this xD.

I'm not sure if there'll be an OSI album next year, or at least in the spring. Kevin has his studies, and I've gotten the impression Jim wants to focus on Fates Warning at the moment.

Yeah I'm pretty confident the cycle will be broken; I think it'll be a while before we hear anything from Kev. Of course I'd love to be proven wrong!

I can't believe it's been three years already. FMT still sounds so fresh. I know I'm super biased but I feel like for the uniqueness of OSI they should be Radiohead big or something.

Also Kev and Jim would be dead from a work overload.  :lol

I'm curious, which 3 songs would you guys pick to show OSI to a person who's not only never heard of them, but isn't even into prog so they wouldn't know about Kevin and Jim's previous work?

False Start is their most accessible song, IMO. Nice, heavy riffing and a bit more lax on the electronics. After that I'd probably show them something like Terminal or Indian Curse to show off the more subdued side.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

Sure You Will
Dirt From A Holy Place
Bigger Wave

Those were some of the first few I heard (SYW was the first), but then again I've got a pretty weird start for all the bands I love and usually wouldn't recommend the oddities but I think DFAHP shows their more ecclectic side, SYW is insanely catchy and easy to get into, and BW is both a bit more laid back but still groovy and accessible.

The Escape Artist
Enemy Prayer
False Start

Though I'm not sure if I'd need three songs. OSI's sound is pretty straightforward in that you probably know after one song if they're your cup of tea. Plus I hate taking their songs out of context anyway, they're very much an albums band.
