Finished listening to the album last night.  I love it.  Microburst Alert and Blood are probably some of the best tracks on there.

Got one spin in so far, and my initial reaction is that even if it grows on me, it won't be as good as the first two albums. I obviously need to listen to it a lot more, but I don't think I'll be blown away at any point.

Yeah, made the last two hours of my work very difficult. We had to bring a body over from the main home to my home/appartment and I checked the mail and there it was. So then I went back to work for two hours knowing it was here but not able to listen to it. :lol

You don't think it'll be as good as the first two?  I mean I'm finding that I enjoy it more than OSI and Free, but I do feel the lack of a slower conclusion.  That's what made OSI and Free great, was that they had two slower tracks to finish the whole deal off.

As I've said, tracks like Microburst Alert, Blood, Be the Hero, and Radiolounge are brilliant.  But I'm gonna miss the Hello, Helicopter! tracks with a heavier emphasis on acoustic guitar.  These tracks have all been a lot more electronic than previous efforts.

I'd give this album a 9/10 personally.  In comparison, my rating for OSI has always fallen around 9.5/10, and I always felt like Free was the weakest album at about 8 or 8.5/10.  Really there were only four tracks at most on Free that I actually enjoyed.

Probable new Fates record. Most likely no remix of Blood.

You know, I never knew there existed a forum for KM. Awesome  :D

Anyway, this album just isn't getting old for me! Thanks for the interviews, Abydos. Great find indeed. Kevin seems like a profound and interesting character.

I'm finding just the same as porksoda, happily: I'm on my fifth complete listening of Blood and it's just as fresh the fifth time as the first.  If anything, familiarity has helped me to love the songs even more.  Gavin's done a terrific job btw; I can't remember which song it was in (might've been False Start), but he does this great time-signature split where he's playing on one signature and the keyboard is on another one, and then they come together briefly and then break off again.  Probably one of the greatest moments on an OSI record.

To me it feels like a departure from their traditional OSI sound in favor of something a little more "cyberpunk," but it's a great place to start. :tup

The title track is incredible, gives me chills.

I dunno. OSI's like, a little bit of experimental a little bit of heavy, but not enough of eitt doesn't help that Moore's vocals really bother me.  :yeahright

KM's vocals are an acquired taste. :lol

It's true, OSI is not for everyone.  I love electronic music so that's what gets me about OSI.  I personally love it because of the cyberpunk feel I get from Blood, and the original ST has some great tracks as well such as 'When You're Ready' and 'Hello, Helicopter!'.  But that's just me.

My rankings for Kevin Moore in general:

1. You Go Now
2. Blood
3. OSI
4. Dead Air for Radios
5. Free

I have yet to purchase Graveyard Mountain Home, we'll see how that changes things some day.

Hm. I liked Blood better than the rest, but that's not saying much. My least favorite OSI is definitely the stuff with Portnoy. He sounded like he was asleep at the wheel on that one.

What's that? MP secretly wanted to sabatoge the record to shut up the MP fans once and for all?  :lol

Actually MP had complained that it was the other way around, that it was KevMo who sabotaged all his drum parts.

The thing I have issue with in this MP-KM feud, at least as it relates to OSI, is how upset he got that he had little creative input.  Of course signing up for this project, surely he realized that he was a guest drummer?  OSI wasn't his project, it was Jim Matheos and Kevin Moore's, and at that more KM's than Jim's.  You'd think that as a hired gun he'd realize that that was all he was; just a guy filling in drums.

Jim invited Mike first, then Kevin, but he more often went with Kevin's ideas on the first album because he didn't want to do another prog album - he could have done prog in Fates. So he choose the fresher, new and more interesting approach that Kevin brought. The second time Mike was just the drummer, nothing more. It's in the interviews.
