I've never heard much from Nevermore that gets me interested but there's certainly some stuff among the old Sanctuary albums that I like.  Into The Mirror Black is definitely worth a listen.

I'm still kicking myself in the butt for forgetting to put "Into the Mirror Black" somewhere in my Top 50 Albums list. It's such an incredible album.

Just listened to it in the background while doing some assignments for work.   Pretty fucking killer, great vocals, love the riffs.  Needs repeated listens.  Really good stuff, nice and old school.  Reminds me of Nevermore, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Queensryche and even Crimson Glory.

The whole album is amazing, but the 1-2 punch of Taste Revenge followed by Long Since Dark is especially  :metal :metal :metal

I can see why. I love both albums, but Refuge Denied has that more immediate appeal to it. That being said, I personally feel that Into the Mirror Black is one of those grower albums, kinda like Dreaming Neon Black. Either way, both Sanctuary and Nevermore are kickass bands! :metal :hefdaddy

I like both. Mirror probably just takes it on the production. Two great albums though.

Paying more attention to it now, I gotta say that I'm suddenly much more excited for "The Year the Sun Died." All the reports I'm reading about it say that it sounds a lot like a blend between "Into the Mirror Black" and Nevermore's "Dreaming Neon Black" (my favorite NM album) and the low-quality live footage of those other two 'new' songs from two years ago definitely indicate that and both sound like great material too.

Not to mention the fact the band has Brad Hull in their ranks now. :metal

For those who haven't heard, The Year the Sun Died is streaming on Spotify right now. It's pretty damn good actually. You'll definitely enjoy it if you are a Nevermore fan.

Warrel's voice is just... He doesn't even have to wail or sing high, but he has so much emotion and conviction in his voice!

Production is stellar as well.

Yeah, I heard it the other day. It's definitely pretty good! I'm not sure how I rank it in comparison to the other Sanctuary or Nevermore albums though. I definitely enjoy it more than The Obsidian Conspiracy though! :lol

I love the hell out of the new Sanctuary. It's better than a lot of Nevermore albums-certainly better than the last disaster-and ranks solidly up there with Into The Mirror Black.  :metal

So The Politics of Ecstasy has been in heavy rotation for me and it's heavily contesting TGE as my favourite Nevermore album. The Seven Tongues of God, Passenger, 42147 and The Learning are some of my absolute favourites, and the rest of the songs are really good as well. On the other hand, This Godless Endeavor has Born, Sentient 6 and the title track, so it's certainly a tough battle.

Very true. The title track in POE is godly, too. That instrumental section  :metal :metal

1. This Godless Endeavor
2. This Godless Endeavor
3. This Godless Endeavor
4. This Godless Endeavor
5. This Godless Endeavor

Yeah okay but in all seriousness

1. This Godless Endeavor
2. Ambivalent
3. Dreaming Neon Black
4. Seven Tongues of God
5. Narcosynthesis

Wow. That's dramatically different to my top 5 back when I did my top 25 but that's how it is now.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

The best Nevermore, by far,  is Dead Heart In A Dead World. I loved the introduction of the seven string, the guitar work sounded so metallic, its awesome! The next best is EoR; short and sweet, just plain kickass.
I don't know what it is about Godless Endeavor, but it just doesn't do it for me like those two. I like it, but I think it goes back a bit more to being like their early stuff, and since I'm not a huge fan of those pre-Dead Heart albums I just don't like it anywhere near as much.
Am I right in thinking the guitars of TGE sound more downtuned then on the previous two, or is that in my head?

And I hope Nevermore reunites, with Loomis of course. I haven't heard the Sanctuary album, is it any good?

Godless was one of the biggest growers of an album I have ever come across.  I too always preferred EOR and Dead Heart, but as time went on I realised how amazing TGE is, it's pretty special, but certainly not as accessable as the other two.  I'd probably rank it number one these days.

The new Santuary album didn't do much for me.  It's good, but pretty generic and not that interesting IMO.    I've only become familiar with their older stuff recently and they are much better.

I'm always surprised at how "passed over" Dreaming Neon Black is.     To me, that blows everything else they ever did out of the water.

I dunno, I never really got into Dreaming Neon Black. It's good as a whole, but none of the songs really make an impact on their own, with Deconstruction being the absolute exception.

And that's fine for when I'm in the mood for a full album of Nevermore! But TGE and TPOE both work splendidly as albums and as stand-alone songs, so there's no way that DNB is coming out on top of that particular matchup.

For me....I Am The Dog and the title track are among the greatest "stand alone" tracks in their entire catalog.

I Am The Dog.....DAT ENDING!!!  :omg: :metal

I Am the Dog isn't bad, but the title track doesn't do much for me outside of the albums context.

Completely agreed. Easily Nevermore's finest hour. Nothing else from them or Sanctuary comes close.

As much as I love Dead Heart and EoR (my favorites), does anyone think that they were partly attempts to make it mainstream/commercially? Songs like Believe In Nothing, Tomorrow Turned Into Yesterday, and Who Decides sound like attempts to make it into the mainstream. Nonetheless I love those songs, their some of their best. Was a huge step in the right direction for the band.

I wish Jeff Loomis would, if not reunite Nevermore, form a new band. He's better then Arch Enemy. I'm not a big fan of cookie monster vocals either. Loomis is one of the most talented guitarists and songwriters in the meta! Scene. Kind of makes me think he does plan on reuniting Nevermore.

On the self-titled, they still sounded like Sanctuary. You have "What Tomorrow Knows", "C.B.F.", "The Sanity Assassin", "Sea of Possibilities", and "God Money."

Kelly Gray fucked up the production on Enemies of Reality to such an extent that none of the songs are even listenable. Even if the production didn't suck balls, you'd still have this abrasive groove/death sound with nu-metal tendencies.
