Awesome, good job!   Makes sense that they are doing the American leg of the tour first before the festival's in Europe. I noticed no mention of a second N American leg to hit the big cities they will be missing on the first **cough** Seattle, and many more.
Great to hear his involvement in the writing process and the approach they took to making this record. I'm so stoked to hear it!! I hope this will be a momentous year for DT...

He does say he doesn't know what they're gonna do after the festivals, he will know in a couple months.

So this will be the first time James writes lyrics to more than 2 songs?

Blabbermouth picked up the article: https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/dream-theaters-james-labrie-on-distance-over-time-album-each-track-is-very-very-exciting-and-very-very-unique/

Thankfully they were respectful this time and used a decent headline. Since JLB mentions MP in the interview, they could have just as well twisted the whole thing and written "Mike Portnoy handled his duties in DT admirably".

Interesting that Guillory is the limiting factor in James' band working on future projects. I would have thought James was the one with the busiest schedule they had to work around.

Thanks for doing this Rodrigo, it was a great interview!..

I think he was talking only about the present time.. James (or DT's schedule really) was obviously the main factor why they hand't toured since 2005!.. But hey, they still managed to release five albums in 14 years!.. That's something..

Great interview! Thank you Rodrigo!!!
Now I'm a bit worried, cause I don't know how much I have to wait to see them in Europe with the "An evening with..." format. James says they're gonna do big festivals, but maybe it doesn't mean they're doing only festivals...
About recording all the shows from the ADTOE tour: it would be great if they release something like the "Christmas gift" in the next future. I'd love to have a live version of TA!!!

TA live would be great! I wonder if these recordings are all audio only, or is there some video footage of these shows with just a couple cameras or something?

Yes! I second this.

James mentioned doing the lyrics on the "bonus track."  Has anyone been talking about this?  I generally understand the term but I'm curious about the specifics.  Is it like a hidden track that doesn't show up anywhere?  Is it a proper song?

The audio is live here: https://www.sonicperspectives.com/interviews/interview-with-kevin-james-labrie/

Ha! Beat me to it.

About one of the songs he wrote lyrics for being a "bonus track" - I was really surprised about that, but was a bit self conscious not to probe too much about the new album. I would like to hear your impression of that after listening to the audio, but for me James was VERY friendly but somewhat reserved too, and there were times where, as much as we had great rapport, I felt somewhat careful of not breaking any barriers.

Great job! I liked the props he gave to Portnoy.
"Mike handled those duties admirably, there's no doubt about it"
Would love to see Portnoy do a song or two with them on stage down the road but not come back to the band. Mangini is phenomenal!

Anyhow, great questions and great flow to the interview.

Thanks, man! When I was doing the transcript, for a second I had the usual tempting thought "hmmm...how about going down the Blabbermouth route and use what he said about MP as the headline?". But no, I always choose a quote that is relevant in the context of the WHOLE interview, and not a clickbait.

Good call, also considering how the fact that MP was the king of extra stuff is hardly headline 8 years after he left.

If James had said something about their personal relations, or how he wishes he'd show up for an encore, now that would have been a legitimate temptation to go for a clickbait title, but to make it all about "singer said that drummer 8 years ago followed a lot of cool stuff for the fans" is weird to say the least.

Related to that question, interesting that James only mention live recordings. What I would like to hear more are demos and making of albums.
