Hey, sorry for the radio silence; this holiday is a big one in my house for various reasons, and this year it was that times ten.  Daughter married, other daughter home from school, wife not feeling well, son going on extended assignment in the military... so, no excuses, but I think I have everyone except Parama*, and I'll try to listen as quickly as I can and not let the results drag too too long.

* I know he's out, but I think it's funny that it took me like three times to recognize that, and so I'm making fun of me, not him.

Stads, do you want our B-side to work as a B-side to whatever we send as the A-side? Or just something that works as a B-side in general?

Sorry; missed this.  That's kind of up to you.  From what I can tell, I have someone that submitted a song that is just a quintessential b-side but has nothing to do with the a-side, and another person sent a b-side that is indelibly tied to the a-side and both work fine.

I'm looking for you to sell me that your choice is right.

Oh, and I think I'm still missing one submission, though I sent a PM to make sure that they are still in (no, it's not Parama).

FYI, first run through; pretty good stuff.  Not one song I really DON'T like, though on the other hand, nothing that grabbed and didn't let go like Marty Friedman or "Deep Peace" in the last one.  But I plan on at least another three or four times through, so we'll see.

One of you nailed the theme creativity up down and sideways.  At least one of you... did you know there was a theme here?

I'd be glad to do a hangman, though I've never done one, so you'll have to bear with me (and any tips by PM would be deeply appreciated).

Yup.  And I'll also share the next two themes (in the next day or so) so you can get a jump on them.

Petition the group; I'm still listening. If you want in, I don't care if no one else does.   I'll hold off on my "insight" into the theme until the gang weighs in.   There's 15 people in the roulette; let's say if more than 5 say "NO!" you'll have to wait till next one; if less, you best be ready to submit ASAP.

Gang?

Can I just say?  I was going over some invoices for work, and one song from the roulette came on and kicked my ass up, down and sideways.  Completely lost track of what I was doing.    Far and away the song of the round (and this is a good round; there's really not one clunker in the group).

It's not Jingle's song, but I'm pretty sure he's going to give me an "I told you so, you stubborn bastard. Put down the Blackmore's Night CDs and live a little."

Can we make a call on Lowdz?  Not everyone voted, but there weren't any "nay" votes, so Lowdz!  You're in!  Just don't hang a brother out to dry and sign up for your own roulette, whatever that means.

Send your two songs asap.   I'd advise you to read my posts before you submit.

Can you share what people sent in the first round? Maybe identify each as which were A and which were B?

I didn't define an A or B, and honestly, don't know which would be which.  Stads can guess.

Okay, we're all in.   I need a couple more listens (and have to listen to Lowdz's stuff) but things are shaping up.

So... what was I looking for?  I didn't honestly have anything specific in mind.  I knew "favorites" and I knew "b-side", but I realized I couldn't really tell any creativity with "what is your favorite?" so I threw in the Kiss reference, just to see how that would be taken.   I got a couple good responses, and some of you are going to nail the three points (2+1) hands down.  Some of you will get 2, and at least one of you is going to get... less than that, because honestly, I missed it.

The two best:
One guy (this is as close as you're getting to hangman, at least this round, so you can guess):
Michael Schenker's Temple of Rock: Wicked
Crowded House: Lester  (Added bonus of this being what I consider the quintessential b-side type song)

"Wicked" and "Lester".  Then he said "If I need to say more, then KISS ain't your favourite band  :D" (Wicked Lester was the pre-Kiss band for Gene and Paul; not their first, though, since they were in a band called Rainbow before that).

Somebody else scored full points in a totally different way, one in which I never expected:
Night Flight Orchestra: Paralyzed (Kiss has a song "Paralyzed" from Revenge, but this isn't it)
Night Flight Orchestra: Living for the Nighttime

I swear; these two songs captured the essence of Kiss almost perfectly; it was "Unmasked" Kiss, but it was still Kiss (and I love Unmasked, frankly).  I could hear Gene's baselines (even though he likely didn't play them then), the drums were vintage Anton Fig (even though Peter got the credit)... even the lyrics were vintage "Naked City"-esque Kiss.  I never in a million years would have guessed that they were recorded in the late 2000's by Swedish metal players.

Not to say others didn't nail it too, but I thought these were good enough to use as examples.

Also, the next two themes (for you to start thinking about, though we're still doing one round at a time; don't send yet):

"Is it live or is it Memorex?"

"Stadler, high school Class of 1985".

Remember, CREATIVITY!  I have nothing specific in mind with the second one, but I do have something in mind for the first (that doesn't mean it's the only right answer though!)  Still two songs, still an A-side and a B-side, still looking for some killer tunes...
