Okay, so here we go.   Not the best of circumstances – I’d love to see Kattleox’s game suspended, in case cooler heads prevail and he comes back, but I’m not a mod – but here we go.

First, this is about FUN.  I want us all- including ME - to have some fun, bust some balls, and listen to some great music.

This is a themed roulette using a NASCAR championship structure.    Eight rounds - each round with a theme.  After five, the top eight go head to head in the "Chase" (rounds 6, 7, and 8).    You win one of the first five rounds, you're automatically in.  The remaining spots will be filled by points.  Sixth round (with 8 contestants):  four go on, four go home.  Seventh round (with 4 contestants): two go on, two go home.  Eight round (with 2 contestants): one wins, one cries.

Each song will be scored like this: seven points on whether I like it and three points on how well it fits the theme (with one point of that for creativity).  SO if the theme is "Love Songs", and you send Tesla's "Love Song", you'd get 2 out of 3 points.  Fits the theme perfectly, but with ZERO creativity. If you submit Gov't Mule's "Don't Step On The Grass, Sam, you'd get a 3 out of 3.  Fits the theme really well in a very creative way.  If you submit Slayer's "Raining Blood", I'ma probably going to give you a 0 out of 3.  I WILL NOT LIKELY GIVE ANY ADVICE ABOUT THE THEMES.  Part of the score is creativity, so I want to see how you interpret.

No banned list, the only rule being “do I know it/do I own it”.    You can ask  me up to twice per round, and if I reject the song, you can either resubmit a different one, or submit that one and have two points taken off right off the top of the seven (put a little gamesmanship in there come playoff time!).  To avoid someone submitting “Stargazer”, recognize that you would only get a FIVE tops at that point (two points off the seven, ZERO for creativity, and I’d probably bone you on the thematic part, unless the theme was “Dio songs about men who live in towers and look at the sky” and it was just so obvious  I couldn't sleep at night otherwise).

Here’s the kicker:  in homage to KTLX, it’s a “Singles A’s and B’s” roulette.  You’re submitting TWO songs,  an A-side and a B-side.  The theme might (or might not!) decide what songs are what, but you’ll know that before you submit.

Because of the timing, I only have a couple themes lined up, but I will post the rest as soon as I possibly can.
First Round Theme:  My favorite band is KISS
Side A: Give me a song you love.
Side B: Give me the perfect b-side.

Second Round Theme:  "Is it live or is it Memorex?"

Third Round Theme:   "Stadler, high school Class of 1985".

Fourth Round Theme:  The Red Rocker or Diamond Dave?

Fifth Round Theme: YOU!   Give me two songs about YOU.  One that maybe tells us something we don’t know, and maybe one that tells us how you think others might see you.  (Spoiler alert:  I have heard the songs “I Am A Viking” by Yngwie, and “My Love Is Like A Tire Iron” by Ted Nugent.)

So we are submitting two songs by the same band, correct?

And their style should fit the KISS theme for this round?

Not answering the second question, that's your creativity part, but for clarity, no, doesn't have to be the same band (unless I think of a theme that demands that, but you'll know).

So, to answer your questions directly:

No.

Maybe, maybe not.  Use your Magic 8 Ball.

Hey, I'm game; there are creativity points that don't factor into genre, and this is your chance to show what you got.  I'm a melody guy, and I like things that are epic.  I'm sure there is SOMETHING in your collection that works for that.   It's all in fun anyway.  Your call, I just want you to feel welcome!

As tempted as I am by Bolsters' and Parama's excellent suggestions, the best bet is YouTube.   By far.   Second is Apple Music (shut up; I'm one vote out of six).   If your song is not addressed by either of those, PM me and we'll work it out.

Be smart about the banned list; I avoided one to HELP you guys, not hurt you.   You'd be hard pressed to find a song that Gene Simmons or Ritchie Blackmore played on that I don't have (unless you go back to Glenda Collins in the '60s' but then your score is going to suck) but take Tony Banks.  Love the guy, have every song Genesis ever put out (except one; a flexi-disk live version of Firth of Fifth).  I have all his classical stuff.  I have two of his solo albums; the other solo albums are fair game.

I've already said, I LOVE Michael Schenker, but I only have the Barden/Bonnet years, and the new one.  That leaves a lot of material there to dig into.  UFO; I have all the Schenker albums, and (I think) all the Chapman albums.   That still leaves a lot of material there.

Also, you don't have to write novels, but I welcome any text or info you want to give me to help me understand why your song fits the theme perfectly.  Remember, creativity is a part of the score, and remember, I keep saying it's about having FUN.
