Wow this roulette filled up quickly. I checked for your thread before I left for work, but didn't see it up yet. Finally just got home from work. I'll join if you don't mind having a ton of people.    I have lots of stuff to send with such a small banned list. How will I ever choose.....

You know I didn't really read the themes that well; I just got excited about the short banned list.  Hopefully I'll be OK with live stuff, but I have no idea about making an EP, so this should be a learning experience...

It might well be. I know the hangman craze didn't start until after my v1. I also believe, though I am not certain, that I came up with the EP round idea. The fact that I refer to it as "make me an EP" and go to great lengths to describe what I mean certainly indicates that it is a new thing.

It's strange that things didn't line up so well last time, considering that we both probably have Dream Theater and Iron Maiden in our top 5 bands. I guess our tastes diverge pretty markedly from there. Maybe this time will be different.

Glad to take you and Aefenwelg as well. I think, however, that at this point I'm going to close the roulette to additional entrants except for people who played in my first roulette (because I promised a spot if they want one). We're now, if I'm counting correctly, at 17 (edit: 18!), and while on one hand I love the idea of getting sent a ton of new music, on the other hand I don't want to get to the place where I'm trying to work with 20-some-odd songs at once.

I'm also going to think about how to retool the stages of elimination. The idea of cutting down to 10 after two rounds was based on an anticipation that I would get, like, 12 or 13 people at most. What I might do is reconfigure it to cut a certain number (like 3 or 4) after Round 2 and then get down to 10 after Round 3—just so I'm not cutting 7 or 8 people at once. I'll have to see how the first round goes and think about how best to do it going forward. What I will promise is that nobody is getting cut after only playing a single round, and that I will let you know how elimination is going to work by the time I provide Round 1 results.

I think I may be inventing a few new types of rounds for my next roulette. Although I cant be sure, I didn't exactly peruse every roulette thread....

One of the rounds I may get some suggestions from the participants on how exactly to set it up and come up with an established base of rules for it. It will be interesting. I may not do one of the round types I'm thinking of depending on everyone's excitement level for it...

I mean, I might've misread it, but here's what 425 wrote in the OP:

To get bonus points though, yeah, you have to submit it. I just want to guess stuff.

You can do all three of those things each round. So in a single round you could, for example, ask for my thoughts on Metallica, ask for my thoughts on Redemption, and guess Fates Warning as one of the bonus points artists. I'll PM you my thoughts on Redemption later today.

Pretty much, yeah! I was debating between just posting the bonus list outright, or keeping it secret, and decided on this as middle ground and as a way to add a potentially fun twist.

A little bit more on that to make the guessing feel a little less random: The bonus points artists are drawn from two categories:

• Artists I have tried and somewhat liked, but feel uncertain about actually wanting to hear more from them. However, I have heard really good things about them from enough people to make me think they're the type of artist that I "should" like more than I do.
• Artists that I have not tried (maybe beyond hearing a single song), and have reasons to think I might really like them, but also reasons to think I might not. And I have heard enough good things about them from enough people to make me think I should give them more of a shot.

Neither Fates Warning nor Vanden Plas are on the list.
