Speak To Me is a top 10 DT song for me. The ‘98 Rotterdam version is excellent.

To Live Forever is definitely a classic. I don’t even think of it as a b-side anymore.
Eve and Don’t Look Past Me are awesome. I’m kinda biased because I think the entire Kevin Moore era is golden.
The Way It Used To Be, Speak To Me and Cover My Eyes are the best from the FII b-sides. They were all played live quite a bit. That speaks to how the band felt about them.
And yes... I realized that I mentioned most of them!  :D

I've been hearing TLF since the I&W tour, and I have no idea what the fuss is about it. I seriously consider it the most boring song DT has ever done.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Are all these songs technically B-sides? Don't you have to be a B-side of something to be a, B-side?

If not, then Speak to Me I guess. None of them are that great. Raise the Knife is good, but I'll only listen to the Score version. Never occurs to me to ever listen to anything else.

To Live Forever and Raise the Knife.
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Either Raise The Knife or Don't Look Past Me, depending on what kind of mood I'm in.

Honestly though, they're all really good. I hope they do a reprint of Cleaning Out The Closet someday so more fans can hear this awesome stuff.

Maybe I wouldn't call it a top 10, but it is wonderful and yes, that version is amazing. Gorgeous ballad through and through.

I don't think most of the songs listed in this thread were B-sides.

Raise the knife
Cover my eyes
The Way it used to be

I basically like the B sides from Falling into infinity better than most of the songs that ended up on the album. And I'd also go with Don't look past me, which I only got into last year due to its addition to the set list.

I don't think most of the songs listed in this thread were B-sides.

Quote
By the early 1970s, double-sided hits had become rare. Album sales had increased, and B-sides had become the side of the record where non-album, non-radio-friendly, instrumental versions or simply inferior recordings were placed. In order to further ensure that radio stations played the side that the record companies had chosen, it was common for the promotional copies (DJ version) of a single to have the "plug side" on both sides of the disc.

With the advent of cassette and compact disc singles in the late 1980s, the A-side/B-side differentiation became much less meaningful. At first, cassette singles would often have one song on each side of the cassette, matching the arrangement of vinyl records, but eventually, cassette maxi-singles, containing more than two songs, became more popular. With the decline of cassette singles in the 1990s, the A-side/B-side dichotomy became virtually extinct, as the remaining dominant medium, the compact disc, lacked an equivalent physical distinction. However, the term "B-side" is still used to refer to the "bonus" tracks or "coupling" tracks on a CD single.

With the advent of downloading music via the Internet, sales of CD singles and other physical media have declined, and the term "B-side" is now less commonly used. Songs that were not part of an artist's collection of albums are made available through the same downloadable catalogs as tracks from their albums, and are usually referred to as "unreleased", "bonus", "non-album", "rare", "outtakes" or "exclusive" tracks, the latter in the case of a song being available solely from a certain provider of music.

In the sense that all the songs above are non-album and/or bonus tracks, they're referred to as "B-Sides", which has become a blanket term for these kinds of songs.

Granted, though, some of these songs DO appear on Dream Theater singles, like "Eve", "To Live Forever", and "The Way It Used To Be", while others like "Speak To Me" appeared on a 6" MINI CD on a Japanese release of FII.

My favourite B-side in DT is James Labrie. I mean, just look at it!
Jordan took Moore's boring, pedestrian parts and elevated them considerably to take them from barely palatable to stellar.
