Damn I loved pretty much all of these songs, but can't honestly say I like any of them now.

I always forget Buckingham wrote Holiday Road.

Putting on my nostalgia hat, I voted for:

Danger Zone (Kenny Loggins)
Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)
Against All Odds (Phil Collins)
St. Elmo's Fire (John Parr)
Burning Heart (Survivor)
Hazy Shade of Winter (The Bangles)
Don't You Forget About Me (Simple Minds) *

* this would be the only song that were it to come up randomly on the radio right now I would not change the channel.

Managed to whittle the list down a bit, but some tough choices! In the end, I went with:
The Power of Love (Huey Lewis and the News)
I'm Alright (Kenny Loggins)
Chariots of Fire (Vangelis)
Take My Breath Away (Berlin)
When Doves Cry (Prince)
Hazy Shade of Winter (The Bangles)
Don't You Forget About Me (Simple Minds)

Honorable mention goes to:
Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)
St. Elmo's Fire (John Parr)
Holiday Road (Lindsey Buckingham)

BTW, I never realized how Kenny Loggins seems to be the king of hit singles for soundtracks.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Maniac is easily the best for me. It’s such a fun song.

All of them! What a fantastic 80s soundtrack CD that would make!

Hearts on Fire - John Cafferty
Conan Theme - Basil Poledouris

My addition would be Up Where We Belong from An Officer and a Gentleman.

As for the list, went with nostalgic choices - Holiday Road, Take My Breath Away and The Power of Love.

I've had the Time of my Life
Eye of the Tiger
Kokomo
Don't You Forget About Me

Love those songs.

Eye of the Tiger (especially Hank Schrader's version)
Maniac (there's a metal cover by Firewind)
What a Feeling (I'd have to find a rock cover for this, I'm positive there are plenty)
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Hazy Shade of Winter is from a soundtrack?  It's the only song on that list that I absolutely LOVE.

I voted for:

Eye of the Tiger
Against All Odds
Take My Breath Away
Hazy Shade
Holiday Road

If I could, I would give a negative vote to The Heat Is On.

Yup.  Less Than Zero soundtrack, which actually had a LOT of really cool tunes.  Hazy Shade was one of three singles released from that soundtrack (the others being Rock and Roll All Nite (Poison) and Going Back To Cali (LL Cool J)), although Bring the Noise (Public Enemy) basically qualifies because, although it was not officially released as a single from the soundtrack, it was subsequently released as a single from Public Enemy's album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back.

BTW, I never realized how Kenny Loggins seems to be the king of hit singles for soundtracks.

Really?? I say this in the nicest way possible, but I didn't think anyone who grew up in the 80's could not know that. :P :)  He had the three biggies featured in this poll, plus Meet Me Halfway (Over the Top) and Nobody's Fool (Caddyshack II).

Eh, I remember hearing Don Felder's Heavy Metal for the first time a few years ago and being shocked at how bland and forgettable it was, considering it was supposedly this great song.

Don't care for the rest really.
