Easy topic: what bands released a debut that still has your favorite song by them.

Note: the band has to have at least five albums (so the sample size isn't too small to pick from).

First ones I could think of:

Boston - Foreplay/Long Time (from Boston)
Spock's Beard - The Light (from The Light)
Arcade Fire - Power Out (from Funeral)
Bad Company - Ready for Love (from Bad Company)

I'm not familiar with much arcade fire besides the first album so I'll second that one sure

Wait until Haken releases their next album and I'll post celestial elixir here

Interesting question. First ones to come to mind are Liberation by Chicago (Transit Authority) and Winter by Tori Amos. Possibly also Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, The Dead Flag Blues by Godspeed You Black Emperor, The Toys Go Winding Down by Primus, Sisters of Mercy by Leonard Cohen, Live Forever by Oasis and Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf.

Phantom of the Opera is one of my top 2 or 3 Iron Maiden songs, and #1 on any given Sunday. That's the only one that that springs to mind.

This isn't that hard for me, really.    Given that "Favorite" is a fluid thing, I could respectfully put:

- Garbage "I'm Only Happy When It Rains"
- Judas Priest "Run Of The Mill"
- Kiss "Deuce"
- Guns 'n' Roses "Rocket Queen"
- Ozzy "Revelation Mother Earth" (though it's not my true favorite - that's "Tonight" - it's up there).
- The Cars "Moving In Stereo/All Mixed Up"
- Cheap Trick "Speak Now (Or Forever Hold Your Peace)"

Dada - Dizzneland
Cars - Just What I Needed
Asia - Heat Of The Moment
Our Lady Peace - Starseed
Dishwalla - Counting Blue Cars
Foreigner - Cold As Ice.

I'm with you on Rocket Queen, but I'd probably go with Black Diamond and Mr. Crowley.

Since I consider Love It To Death Alice Cooper's REAL first album, I'd go with The Ballad Of Dwight Frye.

Boston - Foreplay/Long Time (from Boston)

Good call. I'd probably do with Peace Of Mind.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I don't know what my favorite Sonata Arctica song is, but it has to be something off Ecliptica since that's the only album of theirs that I like.

Shame! :tdwn

I don't know if I have one single favorite GnR song but damn if Paradise City or Jungle aren't high on that list...

Black Winter Night by Dragonforce is still one of my favorite DF songs after all these years... and possibly a few others.
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

My second favorite Iron Maiden song is Remember Tomorrow off of their debut. There's times that it challenges Power Slave as my favorite, though.

The End, by The Doors. Hell if it wasn't for People Are Strange, my top 5 Doors songs are probably off their debut.

They have the odd song now and then that I enjoy but overall, man, I do not like the direction they took.

But hey, if it's what they want to do, more power to them. I just don't care for it.

The obvious one for me is King Crimson, where their debut has my two favourite songs of theirs (21st Century and the title track).

EDIT: And I don't know that I have a favourite Linkin Park song, but Hybrid Theory has some really cracking tunes.

EDIT 2: Ooh and Submotion Orchestra - Finest Hour (the title track) is another good one.

EDIT 3: Ok one more, Amplifier - Neon.

A few that comes to mind:

Amplifier - Airborne
Kayo Dot - The Manifold Curiosity
Blackfield - Summer
Oasis - Columbia (this is a tricky because favorite Oasis tune changes and might be something from Morning Glory another day)
Interpol - Untitled
Dream Syndicate - The Days of Wine and Roses (Halloween would be #2, in fact many good choices from this album)

I think Liberation is the weakest song off their debut... Just too long, and though I admit that Kath was a great guitarist, his blues lines can't fill that much time and keep it interesting...

My examples would be:
Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight (of course he has written tons of other great tunes, but no-one can deny that this one is just awesome)
Linkin Park - Papercut
Lift - Abendstunde, Stille Stunde (not sure if anyone knows them here, eastern German prog band from the 70s, beautiful melodies and very intelligent lyrics)
George Harrison - My Sweet Lord
Falco - Ganz Wien (no, Rock Me Amadeus is not his only and by far not his best song)
Toto - Girl Goodbye (ah wait, I totally forgot that IT'S GONNA TAKE A LOT TO TAKE ME AWAYY FROM YUUUUUU)
any rock can be made to roll

Apart from the already mentioned Linkin Park (where I only like the first 2 albums anyway) with Crawling or Papercut, the only other 2 that come to mind are:

Leprous - Passing from 'Tall Poppy Syndrome'
Redemption - Something Wicked this Way Comes from 'Redemption'
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Most likely Dio's Holy Diver, even though the first part of his solo carrer is so strong that it's hard to pick a clear favorite song. Don't Talk to Strangers possibly.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

I didn't think of that one, but that would definitely be my favorite Ozzy solo song as well. :tup  :tup

I might also throw into the mix:

Heart - my favorite song by them fluctuates between two songs from the debut, Magic Man and Crazy on You, and Mistral Wind.

There's probably more that I'm not thinking of and there are a few where the band doesn't have 5 albums but that's all I've got for now.
