I'm the first one to vote for three of those.  Wow.

TWJYL
Spit
Judas
SBT
ANL
Roam
Apocalypse

The slower songs have the most votes?  Really? Hmph.

Sandman
Bone
Nightmare
Misery
Roam
Moth
Bitch

Quite a few middling Metallica songs in that list for me. Amazing how much harder it becomes to pick seven favourites once the first three albums are removed. (Although, of course, it'd be harder to pick just seven favourites from the first three... I know what I mean!)

Sandman (yeah, overplayed to death, but this does not erase the awesomeness of the song)
Halo on Fire and Spit out the Bone (best on Hardwired)
Unforgiven, Sad But True and especially Roam (best on the black album)
until it sleeps

First leftovers: All Nightmare Long, Bleeding Me, Nothing.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind a special set made of only these songs, only Judas and Wild Things I don't really care about.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

The God that Failed
Until It Sleeps
Bleeding Me
The Outlaw Torn

Spit Out the Bone

I'm a bit surprised that 3/7 of these ended up being from Load, but those are great songs.

Spit Out the Bone
Enter Sandman
That was Just Your Life
The Day that Never Comes
Halo on Fire
The Outlaw Torn
Wherever I May Roam

First 5 were pretty easy picks, but the last couple were battling it out with 5 or 6 other songs. I had to refresh my memory a bit by listening to them again, because it's been a while.

My list, in the order of the songs offered on the list...

Halo on Fire
Spit Out The Bone
The Unforgiven
Bleeding Me
Sad But True
My Friend of Misery
Moth Into Flame

It was a difficult list, which makes it a great poll! For my selections, I went with a combo of what I love about the heaviness about Metallica and the song writing.

Until It Sleeps is doing a lot better than I thought it would.  Old school Metallica fans probably hated it with a passion when it was the lead single from Load, but I think it's a nice laid back tune.

Looked it up: yep, it was Until It Sleeps.

2x4 was never an actual single, which surprises me.

Bone
Outlaw
Fixxer
Bleeding

Pretty easy for me since I don't look to pick 7. These four stand out over the others.

The slower songs have the most votes?  Really? Hmph.
In this era they tended to do better with the slower material. If it were 83-88 it'd skew towards the heavier ones. (With 2 slow ones still topping the list  :lol)

I believe you're right in the sense that 2x4 was debuted in an earlier form at a live show. May have been Donington (Download, as was, back in the olden days for anyone who doesn't know). The first formal release was Until It Sleeps, as others have said.

Edit: okay, so... https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/metallica/1995/donington-park-castle-donington-england-4bd69b4e.html - Devil's Dance was also played. However, it doesn't appear to have been the first performance of either.

Another edit: both 2x4 and Devil's Dance were debuted at this show: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/metallica/1995/hun-sound-san-rafael-ca-43d6dbeb.html in August 1995, about a week before Donington.

Nope. UIS was the first song released from the album.

Yeah, I remember that and at the time it was a really confusing choice.  One of the blandest songs on the whole album.  Didn't do much to make me want to buy Load.  Fortunately lots of the songs were much better.

I think St. Anger is very underrated. I think it's bold and one of the uncompromising albums I know. I think would have chosen at least 2 songs from this album.

I chose:
Enter Sandman
Nothing Else Matters
Until It Sleeps
Fuel
The Unforgiven
Ain't My Bitch

I rate the best song of St. Anger lower than the worst song on this list. At worst (or best?) I'd concede that St. Anger (the song) is more interesting than Judas Kiss but that's it.

The fan re-recording was ok, the songs are still horrible except title track and Unnamed feeling, but at least they sound good.

BINGO. I could not agree more. In particular, for the Load albums, James' lyrical and vocal work on the slower tempo tunes is some of his best stuff ever.

As it stands now, Wherever I May Roam holds the top spot on the poll. I'm a bit surprised. It's a good song but I wouldn't think it would be in Metallica's top 10 of all time, let alone since 1991.

Well...as I type this, the top five songs are as follows:

Wherever I May Roam - 36
Spit Out the Bone - 28
The Unforgiven - 27
Enter Sandman - 25
Sad but True - 25

I don't think it's at all surprising that four of the five are from the Black Album, and I venture to say that the only reason any of these songs are in the top five is because the poll only includes post-AJFA material.  In fact, if there were a poll (at this site) encompassing Metallica's entire career, it wouldn't surprise me if not a single post-AJFA song was in the top ten.

That is why it was more fun to do it this way.  The 80's stuff would obviously dominate, and this way the post-80's stuff gets more chatter.
