I'm the other way around, I think RL has better songs, but I agree TPE is also excellent.

I'm with Ev on this one. I was thinking about it the other day, Remedy Lane might even be my favorite album right now even though I didn't hear it in full in a while, it just always sounds fresh unlike some others of my all time favorites I heard (too) many times.

PoS is meh all around imo. That's just me tho.

And KTLX, I love that you don't sugar coat things. Anyone who can't put on their big-boy underoos and handle some critical thoughts of the host who may happen to not love what they love shouldn't play. I've eliminated lonestar from a roulette, and he single-handedly is the person who's recommended more in my library over the years than any other DTF'r (except maybe Brent).

So, buck the fuck up - everyone.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

I gave out a couple of 4's so far in my roulette. Jingle was the lucky recipient of one of those. You gotta take the good with the bad. Buck up. Put on your bravest face. Don't be a little girl.

Thanks jingle

I'm actually learning a lot from this since it's my first roulette and already have plans to do things differently for the second when that far-off day arrives. Like having themed rounds (to make it easier on you and myself), eliminations (to force participants to think each and every round carefully), and even doing scoring differently (big changes there that I've been thinking about a lot, if anything I've been both lenient and generous with some of the lower scoring ones here).

The only bands I've written off from ever looking into again are Thy Catafalque, Moonsorrow, and Tool (and I already had prior experiences with two of those bands anyway). Literally every other artist is something I'd be willing to look up again - even Pain of Salvation, Need, Redemption, hell even Brand New, since a song that popped on after The Devil/God... actually sounded pretty cool.

Out of 60+ submissions, writing off only 3 is damn good.

Writing off Moonsorrow makes me sad, but I get it. It's not your style of metal. Tool I get writing off as well. They seem to be very polarizing. Either you love it or you hate it.

Jingle covered this earlier I think but I want to ask differently, does anyone think I sound snobby when I talk about albums I dislike? I don't think my taste is superior whatsoever, I'm just being honest about how I feel. I'm super passionate about music and devote a crapton of hours every week to listening, absorbing, and thinking about each person's submission. It took me 5 hours just to do the write-up stuff today alone. I like to imagine I'm being fair and honest, I'll admit I was really hard on Moonsorrow but I go out of my way before each results posting to mention that each person has sent stuff I like.

I think it's fair to dislike something and write how you feel about it, especially in a roulette. As far as Moonsorrow is concerned, I knew what I was getting myself in to.  :tup

I was starting to think I was being an asshole... but maybe this will make me so.

If you can't handle criticism, or if you take criticism of the art and only the art personally, don't participate in a roulette. This is kind of ruining the fun for me. I am not trying to belittle anyone's taste or intelligence by expressing (routine) disappointment with musical elements I don't like. This is a huge reason I want to have eliminations next roulette, so nobody's feelings get hurt.

That's the last time I will say anything about that...

I've got two albums (actually like 10) in mind, they're kinda ambient-ish, but a little sombre in mood at times, which could be risky. I'll think carefully and send soon.

Hahahaha, TPE is the worst album in this round? :lol Wow. Maybe try Remedy Lane, if you don't like this one, Pain of Salvation probably isn't for you.
Try the closest sounding PoS album to TPE? That's not very logical.

I'm honestly not surprised. TPE is a 5 star album for me, but it doesn't strike me as Katt's sort of thing at all. Honestly, I think he might dig the Road Salts more, which I also think are excellent.

Anyway, sent for round 6!

I have heard one of those Road Salt albums (part 1 I think?) but it was so long ago I don't recall anything of it other than Sleeping Under The Stars... which is just weird enough for me to like and remember clearly. Very theatrical in a good way, a Sweeney Todd vibe, even though I don't like Sweeney Todd
