Long story short: I got sick as a dog late Monday, missed work Tuesday (felt like death) and Wednesday (felt better, but still had a bad fever at times), and have been on the slow up climb since. Still feel blah, but I can tough it out at work. Doc said it was a really nasty sinus infection, for which I have been taking antibiotics since Wednesday.
Around 4:50 today, I suddenly feel shitty again and wasn't more than a minute or later when I got this major pain in my chest, right above the solar plexus on both sides. For about a minute, I was nearly doubled over wondering what the hell was happening, so I decided to stand up and see how that would go. I stood up and all of a sudden things got really dizzy and the next thing I know, two of my co-workers are trying to keep from falling. I have no recollection of that 30 seconds where I apparently walked about 25 feet and was about to walk dead straight into a wall before one of them, seeing the supposed blank look on my face (he later said I literally looked like someone who had zero idea of what was going on), jumped up and stopped me, while the other ran over to help, when my consciousness came back. They slowly lowered me to the ground and I was like, "Give me a minute." I literally laid there for about a minute, felt okay, got up and assured them that I felt okay again (which I did). However, one of them insisted on driving me home, which he did, as neither thought I was okay to drive, and quite frankly it would have made me nervous as well.
Since leaving work in his car, I have felt fine (outside of the still trying to recover from the sinus infection thing). Family of course thinks I should go to the ER, but I was like, "Nah, I am okay now." I was probably just malnourished (I have barely eaten since Monday, have no appetite) and/or dehydrated (busy day at work, so I didn't think to keep drinking water all day like I normally do).
Junior MDs, feel free to diagnose away.
