2 Pantera albums vs. 2 Sepultura albums?

For me Beneath the Remains and Arise by far. Dime's guitar work on those 2 Pantera albums is very good, though.
Your pick?

That's a very hard choice.  I went with Sepultura, based on what I've enjoyed listening to over the past 10-15 years.  Those two thrash albums are huge, but the Pantera albums are perfect as well.

Good matchup, but I'll take Sepultura.  Arise has always been a fav of mine, brilliant album.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Pantera without question. Cowboys From Hell is the best metal album of the 90’s and Vulgar Display of Power is pretty great as well. It’s my favorite two album run from a band besides Metallica with Master and Justice.

Beneath the Remains is tied with Reign in Blood for the greatest thrash metal album in history.

I *cannot* even begin to describe the goosebumps when I heard BtR for the first time.  I dare to you to find an album before Remains that was both that aggressive and brutal *AND* that tight and precise at the same time.   Go on...I dare you.   I had never in my life heard anything played that fast and that tight at the same time.   It was a jawdropping experience that I never forgot.

Can we pick both?  ;D

For both bands, those records were game changers for them. All 4 of those albums are great.

Now this is a good poll, really hard to choose. If I were to rank them, I'd go
1.Beneath the Remains
2.Cowboys from Hell
3.Draw between Arise and Vulgar Display of Power

So I guess that would give my vote to Sepultura.

All of this.  The playing on these 2 Sepultura albums is unreal, especially the drumming.  The tempo changes, stops and starts... it's proggy thrash played at breakneck speed.

Some of the credit should probably go to Scott Burns. It was the first break-neck speed album where I could hear everything. There’s both a precision and a clarity to that album that was unprecedented.

Not even close for me (and I do like Sepultura), but definitely Pantera. I mentioned in the Metallica vs Maiden thread yesterday that Metallica was my introduction to metal, but then I heard Pantera and they took it to a new level (pun intended). I heard Vulgar Display of Power first and became obsessed with it. Love their entire catalogue, excluding the first four (pre Phil) albums which I have, but could never get into.

A closer comparison for me with Sepultura's 2 would be InFlames' The Jester Race and Whoracle. That would be a real tough choice for me.
