Who would you like to see on a G3 tour?
« on: January 17, 2018, 04:41:30 PM »
John Mayer
This.  Guy.  Can.  Flat-out.  Play.

Nuno Bettencourt
Yeah, he did Generation Axe already, but would probably do well in G3.

Vito Bratta
A lot of 80s guitarists could really play, it's just that the music was "easy" and they dumbed-it-down for the songs but give them a 10-minute solo spot in their shows and they can walk the walk for sure.  I don't think he's making music or playing at all, though.

Polyphia and Arch Echo would be nice but probably wouldn't really fit-in unless they were an opening act or something cuz nobody is "famous" in either band.

Guitars that sound/look good on paper but probably wouldn't work out that well:

Slash
Not really a solo performer, needs a full band with vocals to play with, other than jamming.

Mark Tremonti
Too much wah-wah, and also needs a band, same with Kirk Hammet.

Richie Sambora
15-20 years ago, for sure, nowadays, aw hell no, but Orianthi would be cool.

Eddie Van Halen
30 years ago, for sure, nowadays, aw hell no.

Kiko Loureiro. The man can play! :metal

Also Guthrie Govan, even though he technically was there with The Aristocrats.
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

For Slash, he's done some pretty good instrumentals as a solo artist like Watch This and Safari Inn.  Of course, he's game for a jam with all kinds of musicians and he can take a song and extend it instrumentally as long as possible like in the live versions of Rocket Queen.

For Mark Tremonti, I do want him to see create some instrumentals either with his solo band or with Alter Bridge (Ahavo Rabo Taco Salad was a good example of what he can do for an instrumental).  That stated, I believe he always emphasis the vocals and lyrical parts of the song as the core to making a song, so I don't see him creating some instrumentals and touring something like G3.

Eddie Van Halen would have worked, if he wasn´t so lazy these days. Other than him, I´d like to see Michael Romeo from Symphony X. From more "classic" players, I think Brian May and Jimmy Page would be fun too - they´d bring another kind of vibe to the show.

Don't think he's a big enough name that it would happen, but Sithu Aye would be fun.
Photobucket sucks.

I saw this guy opening for Tony Macalpine last year. Very talented indeed, but way too many notes and not much feeling. Surprising for a South American, but that´s how I felt about it when watching him.

Vinnie Moore. My favourite guitarist and I’ve still never seen him play.

I’ll be getting to see Uli Roth this time so that’s another ticked off the list.

Any of the 80s shredders really. T Mac, Friedman,

From the realm of fantasy?

Jason Becker and Gary Moore. Gary would give anyone a run fo4 their money in The jamming stakes.

If I had to select three of all the guitarists that took part in G3 over the years, I'd go with Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Robert Fripp. I think there was a Joe/Petrucci/Paul Gilbert line up a while ago, so that one would be great to see as well.

There was indeed back in I think spring 2007. Awesome show.
