I went with

Get up
5150
Inside
Baluchitherium (one of my favorite VH songs, I will never understand all the hate this one gets)
Feelin

Also would have picked Crossing Over had it been an option, that song definitely should have been on all versions of Balance.

This just serves to underline how underwhelming the Sammy era was. The only songs on that list that thrill me are the 5150 songs....and I don’t even consider Summer Nights to be a deep cut. But Get Up and Inside are easily my 1 and 2 from that album... and probably from the entire Hagar era.

I'll tell you one thing:    I still put on Running With The Devil and it sounds like TODAY, man, fresh as a daisy.  I put on 5150 and it sounds like... 1985.

I love Sam, way better singer than Dave, no doubt, but in my humble opinion, the Roth Van Halen has aged WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than the Sammy VH.

This just serves to underline how underwhelming the Sammy era was.

I would not use the word underwhelming, but, to me, the deep cuts from the Roth era are collectively better than the ones here.

I'll tell you one thing:    I still put on Running With The Devil and it sounds like TODAY, man, fresh as a daisy.  I put on 5150 and it sounds like... 1985.

I think that is largely because of Alex's drum sound on 5150 (which is pretty electronic-heavy at times).  One could easily turn this around and say, "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge still sounds fresh today, while Jump sounds like...1984."

That said...

I do agree with this statement.  I didn't use to think so, but recent binge listens of the band in the last couple years made me come to the same realization.

I was firmly in the Eat em and Smile camp over 5150. Get Up was awful.

I like FUCK and Balance but 5150 and OU812 were poor.

Get Up gets A LOT of hate, and it just baffles me.   Metal fans hating on the heaviest song VH ever wrote.  That song slays.  I was in the midst of my thrash phase at the time, and I couldn't believe VH came out and did something like that.  I heard it once on the radio, and it was the sole reason I bought 5150.

OU812 really didn't age well at all. Only voted for Summer Nights, and I agree that wasn't a true "deep cut".
