Not sure how I feel about this.

It sucks. It puts us one purchase closer to a world where 1-3 companies own almost everything.

Big day. Ajit Pai lets ISPs bend us over to ream us and Disney is either going to screw up the new MCU post-Infinity War or revitalize it in the most awesome way possible...

By giving us Hulk Vs. Wolverine (let's be honest, it MIGHT be a couple years till they recast the role; no doubt they're looking as I type this).

DTP says "WOW, LOOK AT THAT GREAT POST"
RIP DTP.

Eh, Alien needs a reboot anyway.  I have no problem seeing a chestburster bust out of somebody, and then break into a refrain of "Let It Go" before scuttling away to some hidden area of the ship to hide and grow before picking off the rest of the ship's crew one by one.

Right now, I am worried about this. Mainly for the TV aspect. This gives them FX and FXX. I love the shows on FX and FXX because of their edginess. Nothing on those channels fits into the Disney narrative.

I have also seen that most of the Fox channel programming could be blown up and the channel pivoted to mostly (un)-Reality shows.

Based on what I have seen and heard, I don't like this.

Deadpool is Disney now. Yikes. So when does the Deadpool Experience open at Disney World?

I don't know, we'll see.

I'm only excited about this because of Avengers-XMen-F4 convergence. That's about it. I don't like the idea of a massive megacompany having such enormous breadth and power across the entertainment industry. Not that I knew exactly how big they were beforehand but holy crap, 52 *billion* dollars... I'm also concerned about them potentially messing with R rated properties (Deadpool is a current, good example of something I'm worried about).

Also that image of Deadpool being escorted out of Disneyland is hilarious.

Well we got about 18 months or so of extremely fun speculation since that's about how long it will take for this deal to actually happen. So don't expect any surprises in Infinity War, or possibly even Avengers 4.

Do you think we might see an end credits scene featuring an X-Men character in Avengers 4 or another Marvel movie? A quick stinger? I'm thinking something simple like the Avengers having a chat and suddenly the X Jet flies by, or a shot of Wolverine's hand extracting the claws. They won't need an actor for that.

Not till the deal is final in 12-18 months. So definitely not Infinity War. Probably not Avengers 4 either, just given the timing. Although, depending on how long the process takes, they could theoretically shoot a scene like that for Avengers 4 and put it in if possible.

Also the scene I have in my head is a quick pan up of Tony Stark's old building that he sold in Spiderman with a big 4 on it.

As much as I don't want to see one company owning everything, I am also impressed with what Disney does with most of it's properties. They have released so much hits, both critically and (especially) commercially over the last couple of years and no other studio comes close. Just look at how many garbage Spidey films we got from Sony and under Disney's Marvel studios we get a solid film just like that (good/great even, for many). Same goes for Star Wars, two utterly horrible films and a half decent one and Disney makes a couple of solid/good ones in like half the time (though I still think Solo is going to suck). I think the way Disney runs things leads to a higher rate of quality products. And in that sense, I am looking forward to their output with many of their newsly aquired properties.

My main worry in the film space is that Disney doesn't do R-rated (or at least not yet), so I fear we won't see another Logan or a Deadpool anytime soon (well, at least I assume they will finish up Deadpool 2 and that X-men related horrorfilm). Yes, I am aware of Touchstone pictures and I imagine they will do R-rated films in a similar fashion (for example, maybe with with Alien). But I think they will be incorporating X-men and Deadpool straight into the MCU's next phase as films.

As for all the television properties, I have no idea what they will do. Since they are aiming to be the next biggest streaming service, I will imagine they will continue all the succesful ones and make it exclusive to their streaming channel. In relation to this, I also wonder how long the Marvel/Netflix deal will last. Or can Netflix make Daredevil and co. till the end of time?

Does anyone know if Disney has the right to release movies under the 20th Century Fox banner? If so, I could see them shunting all the R-Rated stuff there. There will obviously not be an R-Rated Deadpool movie with the Disney banner playing at the beginning of the movie. They got several franchises in this deal that cannot be anything but R-rated , so Disney will find a way to work with that.

They definitely will do R-rated stuff themselves. This is also Disney: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touchstone_Pictures. Touchstone Pictures is a brand label that Disney used to release films that did not fit their image. Maybe they will use Fox in the future, or use another label. But they are definitely going to use their newly acquired properties worth over 50 billion, including the R-rated properties.

As I mention above, the only properties I think will stop being R-rated are X-men and maybe Deadpool in the future. Though my personal feeling are that they will keep Deadpool a separate thing until the current film franchise runs towards it's end (why mess with a very promising/profitable series, let Ryan and co do their thing). X-men will definitely get it's reboot, so I don't expect anything like Logan. In the end, I expect all of them to appear in the MCU blockbuster films.

If this means we finally get those unedited Original Trilogy Star Wars movies on DVD/Blu-ray I'm all for it. Disney could make a billion dollars back easily by just releasing that.

My only complaint about Disney+ is that it's not available via AMAZON or the FireStick. It's all Google, Roku or internet streaming. My TV's at home are driven by the firestick.

Depending on how well the image quality holds up from 'casting' from my iPad to my main TV will determine if I have to get a Roku for it or not.

Yeah, same here. All my TVs at home have firestick in them as well. I was hoping Disney and Amazon would figure this out, because Disney+ seems like a no-brainer, but if I can't watch it through my firestick, it'll be inconvenient to say the least.

Same.  But we get around that by just connecting our laptop via HDMI and streaming whatever we want to stream that way.

For those of us with a Verizon Unlimited plan we now get a full year of Disney+ for free. I was planning on signing up anyway, but then got a little worried when I noticed that if you signed up via Verizon, your billing would be handled via Verizon. I didn't want that.

Today, a story broke that if you already signed up for Disney+ and go for the Verizon deal, they will simply pause your Disney+ subscription. Once your 12 months with Verizon are done, they will switch your billing back to Disney+ and resume your account handling there.

So my plan is to let Disney bill me my $70 year subscription next month and then sign-up for the Verizon promotion. This ensures that I am billed now and I get 24 months for $70. That comes out to $2.92 a month. Can't beat that.

I forgot about the squabble Amazon and Disney have going on. That is going to suck, since I mainly got Disney+ for my kid to let her watch on the TV. We use the Firestick on all our TVs and I doubt they will sort it out.
