Wow - no Scorpions choices?!? I mean, I would've expected Still Loving You or Winds of Chain, altho my choice would be Send Me an Angel.

Still Loving You still gives me goosebumps.
That's one of my favorite rock ballads of all time.

Never been a fan of Whitesnake's Is This Love. In fact, as much as I love the band that plays on it, I'm on record as saying that album is severely overrated.

But, man, was Tawny hot in that video!

Who?

WOW, had to ruin it didn't ya  :tdwn haha

And Yes Scorpions Still Loving You is one of the best, And Great White Save All Your Love, Cinderella Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone and Long Cold Winter.

But this was tough, lots of great ones on that list.

Faithfully
Love Bites
Home Sweet Home
Alone Again
Every Rose Has It's Thorn

I went with:
Faithfully
Love Bites
Keep On Loving You
Alone Again
and Home Sweet Home, altho I could've easily swapped it for the Foreigner or VH tracks.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Does "Silent Lucidity" fall into the category?  If so...it would be my choice.  If not... Whitesnake.  :hat

Just saw Rick Beatos Top 20 Rock Ballads and got reminded of this song again. You know one interesting thing about that song and something I really love is how he actually dosen't sing the the full chorus until 4:45. It's such a powerful moment when he finally sings Still Loving You.

Not sure how you leave Bon Jovi out of this. I’m a fan of the power ballad but not so much of these songs apart from the Journey and Def Leppard ones. I’d throw in Alone by Heart, Sweet Child O Mine by Guns N Roses and I’ll Be There For You by Bon Jovi too.

I'm sorry to be mean, but Tawny Kitaen looks like Cesar Romero's Joker in that second picture.

I did not watch it, so I don't know if this is misleading or not, but her credits include an appearance on "Botched", which is an interesting show where cosmetic surgeons Drs. Paul Nassif and Terry DuBrow (yes, THAT DuBrow; his brother is/was Kevin) fix "botched" plastic surgery.

I Remember You - Skid Row

For some reason I feel like a “monster ballad” needs to be a hard rock/metal band doing a ballad. A power ballad. Lumping pop groups like REO/Styx/Journey/Boston/Foreigner in with that....iffy   :P

Not that familiar with REO and Styx but Journey, Boston and Foreigner are rock bands, especially in their heyday. There was a time when Bon Jovi were considered to be a Heavy Metal band. Categories have shifted over time but, in the 80’s, Journey were a hard rock band.

I'm not particularly familiar with REO (beyond a couple songs) or Boston beyond the first two albums, but all of those bands ran the gamut of "rock" labels.  FWIW, Wikipedia lists journey as an "arena rock," "hard rock," "soft rock," "progressive rock" and "jazz rock" band.  "Arena rock" was probably the best description for the first half of the 80s.  Styx gets all the same labels, excluding "jazz rock," and also adding "art rock" and "pop rock."  Foreigner only gets "hard rock," "arena rock" and "pop rock," but "soft rock" would be just as apt.  All of the songs by each of these bands is unquestionably deserving of the description "monster ballad."

Random note: I'm not entirely sure I've ever heard the song that has gotten the most votes.

I just watched (most of) the video for More Than Words.  If I've ever heard that song (or anything else by Extreme) before today, I have no recollection.  However that song is definitely NOT a "monster ballad" (unless "monster ballad" simply means very successful ballad).

Not in the options, but when I think "monster ballad", I think Love Song by Tesla.

I love the premise of the poll, as I love me my power ballads ... but I can't believe you picked some of the worst ballads to highlight.  Love Bites is by far my most hated power ballad of all time :lol.  I'll second the love for I Remember You and Love Song.  How you skipped over Wanted Dead or Alive boggles me (mayhap you don't consider it a ballad?).  Other blatantly obvious omissions (imo):

My Oh My
High Enough
Don't Know What You Got ('til it's gone)
Alone
I'll See You In My Dreams
Fly To The Angels
Can't Fight This Feeling
Against All Odds
Oh Sherrie
Close My Eyes Forever
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Kix - Don't Close Your Eyes

LA Guns - Ballad of Jayne

Scorpions Still Loving You

Warrant - I Saw Red
