Best solo album
« on: November 21, 2017, 12:11:28 AM »
I have asked Bosk1 to remove my previous polls....

This next one looks at solo albums by the band members. I put it in this area as its not a DT related question. Its one about the solo albums by the members.. so its just a General Music Discussion of these albums...

Please note i have only included actual albums with music and other musicians....

The list is in order of release date.
For those who vote please express your reasoning as to why it is your favourite.
I look forward to seeing everyones different opinions on this topic

This.

Do you mean you've only included albums from the members in DT that play instruments?

As massive a fan of Derek and SoA as this guy is (according to Facebook) I'm pretty surprised he isn't at least familiar with James's solo stuff! Go find 'em... there's good stuff in them albums
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

I don't understand what any of this means. 'Only albums involving music' but none of Jordan's piano stuff? So you just want a 'band' but only a 'band' is music? Ever heard Insectsamongus by Jordan? There's a lot of mindblowing prog in his repertoire.

EDIT: My bad, Rhythm of Time actually is in the poll options  :lol But none of these solo albums are actually bands per se, either, I don't recall Jordan ever playing these live, although I could be wrong... I think the piano albums are just as worthy

Im a fan of a lot of stuff....
Been listening to DT since i first heard Live Scenes From A Memory.... collected every album since including a number of bootlegs such as when they did Dark Side Of The Moon & Made In Japan

The reason i had not heard his stuff was because i didnt know he had solo albums..
This poll was focusing on work done by the artist with involvement with other musicians...
Hence why i didnt include the Piano albums as these are just Jordan playing a piano. But Explorations is there because its with an orchestra. So there is a lot of musical involvement

Of the options presented, JP's solo album wins by a mile.

I went with Explorations. Shouri Now and A Pledge to You are two really great pieces, and the eponymous keyboard concerto is pretty lit outside of a few structural problems. The rest of the album is pretty solid too. Suspended Animation and Rhythm of Time are close seconds, tho.

Voted for Jordan Rudess "The Road Home".  I really haven't honestly heard hardly any of these, but I love the Genesis cover of Dance on a Volcano with Neal Morse on vocals from this Jordan album.  So it gets my vote.  I also own JP's solo album, but never listen to it.  I just am not into instrumental music that much.

No JLB = no poll

Elements of Persuasion is better than anything on this list.   I haven't really cared for his last two albums, but EoP is probably my second favorite 'DT musician related' album behind Chroma Key's Dead Air for Radios.....that will forever be my #1.

Sorry. But i listened to one of JLB's solo albums....
But after 1 minute i had to stop... it just sounded like a poor mans attempt at trying to be a rock singer. And it didnt work....

Sorry but thats how i feel about it. And i am entitled to my opinion

True enough, but when it's based on a total of "1 minute" of listening it may not be a particularly informed one.

For my interest, which album was it you listened to the first minute of?

:lol You can't listen to 1 minute and then dismiss it. That's not giving it a fair shake. James has been a rock singer his whole life. Go listen to some Winter Rose - guy rocks even before DT.

I’d have voted for a Labrie album!

The Road Home and Suspended Animation are friggin' fantastic.
