Which songs would you like to be represented in DT14's tour?
« on: November 15, 2017, 02:05:40 PM »
Since I&W&B tour is coming to an end, I was wondering what are the songs that DT hasn't played in a while that could be played in the next tour. Usually DT incorporates songs from albums which happen to have an anniversary, they did even on the current tour with TDEN (SC's 10th anniversary) and with HK (FII's 20th anniversary). 2019 will be the anniversary (sorry if I have said this word A LOT in this post) of WDADU (30th), Awake (25th), Metropolis (20th) and BC&SL (10th). So I will like to see DT play in the next tour:

1. The Killing Hand (DT's first epic in some sense)
2. Voices or The Mirror (unlikely as they already played it in 2014)
3. Beyond this Life (underrated song in my opinion)
4. The Best of Times (very very very unlikely) or A Nightmare to Remember (as the opener like in 2010)

And you?

(NOTE 1: it doesn't necessarily be a song from the albums I listed above)
(NOTE 2: I really hope DT14 contains an epic like ACOS)

If there's not 20 minute long epic on the new album I'd love to see Octavarium be the encore.
Do you read Sutter Cane?

Octavarium for sure. In the Name of God deserves another appearance as well. I don't think it has been played since Prog Nation 2009. Train of Thought as a whole has been pretty under-represented recently. As has 6 Degrees, but I don't care for it nearly as much as ToT - though The Glass Prison would be great to see.

Some others I'd personally love to see would be Sacrificed Sons, The Ministry of Lost Souls and Lines in the Sand. In the Presence of Enemies too, though that's highly unlikely.

The I&W and Beyond tour was great for me, as it allowed me to finally see 3 of my top 10 DT tracks live (Learning to Live, Metropolis and A Change of Seasons).

I've been blessed to see many amazing DT concerts so I'll just say that, for the novelty of it, I'd like to hear You Not Me.

Other songs I'd like to hear:

Through Her Eyes, maybe with a different arrangement, the only SFAM song I haven't seen live
Disappear
The Glass Prison
Forsaken
The Count of Tuscany
Behind the Veil
Home
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

I'll take as much of SFAM as I can get.

Others that come to mind (although I don't know how recently some of them might have been done...is there a resource where one can look that up?):

The Killing Hand
Only a Matter of Time
6:00
Scarred (I know this was done at least as recently as the Systematic Chaos tour...not sure if it's been done more recently)
Blind Faith (also played at least as recently as the Systematic Chaos tour)
Misunderstood
Stream of Consciousness
Panic Attack
Octavarium
Wither

I really want to hear ACoS, it's one of my favorites and I haven't hear it live. I don't think this tour is going to come to Mexico but I hope it does, since I don't think they will be playing that song again.

Beside that song, I really want to hear:

Octavarium
A nightmare to rememeber
Only a matter of time
Beyond this life
Blind Faith (I heard this one in the SC tour, but I was just getting into DT, so I didn't knew the song then)
SoC (my favorite instrumental!)

I’m very much into seeing songs I’ve never seen live before so I’d pick:

1) Light Fuse And Getaway
2) You Not Me
3) Speak To Me (or any FII b-side besides RTK and CME)
4) Disappear
5) Surrender to Reason (or Behind the Veil)
6) Lost Not Forgotten (or This Is The Life)
7) The Ministry Of Lost Souls
8) Wither
9) Never Enough

I'd be happy with any of the following which I've never seen live:

Behind the Veil (needs a U.S. performance)
Surrender to Reason (needs a live debut!)
You Or Me (Demo version!!!)
Cover My Eyes
Vacant + Far From Heaven (I think that would be emotional and powerful duo)
Wither
Disappear
Anna Lee

DT has tremendous fan service (perhaps the best of any band), and given the recent addition of Don't Look Past Me, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the above selections find their way into future setlists.

Voices and In the Name of God are long overdue to return (neither have been played in the Mangini era).

This a million times. My favorite song of all time and I need to hear it live before I die.

If I had my way, any of these songs that I haven't heard yet would make it into the set, with ones that I would particularly want to hear bolded.

Afterlife
Only a Matter of Time
A Mind Behind Itself
Lines in the Sand
Home
The Spirit Carries On

Blind Faith
Vacant
Stream of Consciousness

These Walls
Panic Attack
Octavarium

Constant Motion
A Nightmare to Remember
The Count of Tuscany
Bridges in the Sky

Surrender to Reason

Thanks!  It suggests that the rarest songs (of those that actually appeared on an official DT release -- i.e., no Collins era songs or random stuff that only existed for live performances) are Repentance (only played once in May 2008), Disappear (only played twice in April 2004), You Not Me (four appearances in December 1997 and January 1998), and The Answer Lies Within (seven times in the several months leading up to the 20th Anniversary concert).  Interesting.

For the love of god, The Glass Prison!!! I’ve seen them 10 times now and have checked off nearly all the songs on my must-see-live list, except for that one. Hasn’t been played since the ToT tour if I’m not mistaken, it’s long overdue.

Also like to hear Lines In The Sand, Octavarium (if it’s called for), Blind Faith, Outcry and Through Her Eyes.

Since I am a new listener (almost 2 years) and only 3 Astonishing concerts, all above would be great.... But, I have to go with Octavarium. The coolest, most original
song I have ever heard.

It was last played on the 8vm tour. They often opened the second set with TGP into TDS.

I think it's funny that I've seen them twice and still haven't heard The Spirit Carries On. So... that one. :)

There are 17 album tracks that I have not seen. Some would make good songs to include in a setlist and others not-so-much. I'll try to make a setlist for what could be an evening with type show for a new album using a bunch of those songs:

1. New Song (presumably album opener)
2. Surrender To Reason*
3. Burning My Soul*
4. New Song
5. Outcry
6. Through Her Eyes*
7. New Song (Instrumental?)
8. Our New World
-------------------------
1. Behind the Veil*
2. The Great Debate*
3. New Song
4. Far From Heaven*
5. The Enemy Inside
6. New Song (Epic Closer)
------------------------------
Encore: Only A Matter of Time*

That would make five new songs, seven songs that I've yet to see, and three I've seen and wouldn't mind seeing again. I'd be alright with that.

Also, only four out of the fifteen songs here are before Mangini's time, which is something I wouldn't doubt the band will lean on more going forward.
I don't want MP playing with DT unless they were making a drummer change. If they let MM go and bring back MP, then fine, but no guest appearance please.
WELP.

Lines in the Sand
In the Name of God
Blind Faith
The Glass Prison or something else from 12SS
Endless Sacrifice
Octavarium
A Nightmare to Remember
A new version maybe from The Killing Hand or Status Seeker

I would really like to see some rearranged versions of older songs!

I'd love to see them play:

Another Won
The Killing Hand or Only a Matter of Time (this one was supposedly going to be played on the DT12 tour, but had to be cut due to the setlist being too long)
No IAW songs for the next tour
Erotomania and Voices
Raise the Knife or Lines in the Sand
Beyond This Life
Blind Faith
Goodnight Kiss and Solitary Shell
Misunderstood
Vacant and Stream of Consciousness
Octavarium
The Ministry of Lost Souls
No BC&SL song
Outcry or Lost Not Forgotten
Surrender to Reason
A New Beginning

...and Raw Dog, because, why not?

Others that come to mind (although I don't know how recently some of them might have been done...is there a resource where one can look that up?):
You could look here: https://www.setlist.fm/stats/dream-theater-bd6a102.html - it won't be 100% accurate, but it's pretty good I think.

Or you could just look in the concerts section on this site.  Every single show is listed.

They are there as well.  We just haven't had anyone organize the sets into subforums.  But the sets are there are easy to find, especially since they didn't change.  Wish cyberdrummer didn't lose interest in compiling the info though.  I would, but just don't have the time.
