Sons of Apollo
« on: November 14, 2017, 03:11:45 PM »
Who is your favourite? Obviously it must be hard to choose from, given that Apollo had so many children, with 5 divine offspring and over 50 mortal offspring. If I was forced to choose though I would definitely choose Asclepius, the god of medicine and the healing arts. Indeed his legacy is such that the rod of Asclepius is a well recognised symbol of the practitioners of the medical arts.

While I could understand why some might disagree, especially with contenders like Aristaeus, the patron god of beekeeping (who doesn't like honey?) and of course Tenes, the eponymous ruler of the Island of Tenedos, the story of Asclepius is the one that resonates most strongly with me, though I am keen to hear your thoughts!

I'm going with a daughter of Apollo, Phoebe. You know, because of that scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. :eyebrows:

Compared to their aunts and uncles they seem to have all sucked. I searched that page for the sorts of the things I appreciate about the ancient Greeks, drinking lots of wine and turning into amusing animals to bang hot chicks, and none of them seem to have that going for them. Rather boring lot, honestly.

That's such a great movie. It's almost too bad it was made into a Rocky off shoot and not its own thing, as that sort of limited what it could do and turned a lot of people off from seeing it. It's like the Rocky franchise's little brother when it's a damn good stand alone movie in its own right.

It's a terrific movie, and I think it's a great addition to the Rocky Extended Universe (OH YEAAAA). I loved Rocky's story in it, but I also love (most of) the Rocky movies.

ORPHEUS A bardic prince of Pieria (northern Greece) whose music possessed magical properties. According to some, he was a son of Apollon by the Mousa Kalliope (however this was contrary to the usual tradition which said he was a son of Kalliope and the Pierian King Oiagros).

I watched it for the first time about a week ago.  I really quite enjoyed it and agree that it's a fine addition to the Rocky line.

I have one Orpheus album (melodic death metal from Australia), it's brilliant.
